The major asset, which this hotel has, is it's staff. It has the finest staff in any hotel we have visited. Although they are relatively young, they are all well trained, but more importantly seem to work using their own initiative.
We had played golf at the hotel course and as we arrived to book in it was raining, but one of the staff instantly arrived to help unload the car. There we no spaces close by in the car park, but he took the car keys and arranged to park it for us as soon as a space came free.
This continued in all areas, taking their time to explain the room and also in the restaurant.
We were in the new area, the Follyfoot . These rooms are wonderful and beautifully appointed. If visiting ask for rooms in this area.
Downside
The prices at the restaurant and vastly overpriced.
The food is good but not exceptional and to charge £25 - £30 for main courses, plus £4 for side dishes (6 chips for £4 is way over the top) £12.50 for starters and £10 for Sweets. Wine starts at about £24 so the bill is over £120 for 2.
We have eaten at a number of restaurants with Michelin stars, with more varied and exciting menus which were less expensive.
Minibar
I guess that this is not only Rudding Park, but all hotels. Why do they have them? Does anyone ever use them?
The prices are crazy
A bottle of average red wine £30
Half Bottle white wine £15
a few sweets £5 etc
In such a professional hotel it demeans them as it looks as if they are trying to rip off a captive clientel. Surely if these items were offered at a reasonable price, they might actually sell something.
Sorry, bee in the bonnet time.
Apart from these 2 quibbles its a great hotel with a fabulous golf course (Again the staff in the golf section were all excellent) and yes we will return, but still avoiding the mini bar
Room Tip: Ask for a room in the Follyfoot

Dear Guest,
Thank you for staying with us at Rudding Park for a golf break and for taking the time to write such a detailed review.
We were pleased to read that you enjoyed the majority of your visit and thank you for your lovely comments with regards to our staff and Hotel. We have of course shared your comments with all departments concerned and a copy of the review has been passed around to all the staff in the golf academy.
With regards to your “bee in the bonnet”, we appreciate all guest feedback as it highlights areas in which we can improve and although some of the prices mentioned are slightly exaggerated, we are sorry that you felt the Clocktower is overpriced. We do compare our prices regularly with venues of the same level, while we understand that they are likely to be slightly higher than your local public house, we do feel that we are reasonably priced. To demonstrate this for example we have a 2 course lunch menu at £14.95 and 3 courses for only £19.15. We feel that this is excellent value for money.
We were surprised by your comments regarding our mini bar facilities. Most luxury hotels offer a mini bar service in rooms and I can guarantee you that lots of our guests enjoy it. However, we are sorry that you didn’t appreciate this facility in your room. The prices mentioned again are slightly exaggerated but ultimately guests have an option to buy a product or not. As a result we have made a note on your personal profile to ensure that we clear your mini bar prior to your next arrival.
Once again, thank you for your comments and we look forward to hopefully welcoming you back to Rudding Park in the near future.
With kind regards
The Rudding Park Team
