“Unexpected B&B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2010

This B&B totally blew me away. By the look on the exterior, that wasn’t particularly intriguing, but inside was a complete surprise. The dining room wasn’t a typical cold, drafty room with a wooden floor. It felt like the complete opposite because it felt like a cottage home, all cozy and warm. The breakfast was acceptionly good, because it was a full, cooked breakfast with all the food required to make up a full English breakfast. I stayed in room 3. It was grand. The bed was very comfortable, I fell a sleep as soon as I got in. The view was stunning from my bay window; I could see the Conference Centre and roads leading off to Parliament Street and valley gardens. The room was very spacious, I could fit my entire luggage into the room and I had plenty of other space just to dump my clothes. The room was very clean, it had a great bathroom, and it looked as if it hadn’t been used. The colors were very warm which made me feel like home because of how it felt. The service is brilliant because the couples that owe the B&B answer any questions at any time. They are vey polite and welcoming. However the checking out time is 10:00am which was disappointing because I like sleeping in on a morning. The Kingsway Hotel is the first B&B on the bunch of other B&B’s. I stayed here a year ago and the visit wasn’t as good as this year, the room has been refurnished and the breakfast is a lot more appetizing than it used to be. The website isn’t true at all, except from the address. The rooms are what they were 5 years ago, the website needs to be updated.

This B & B is situated close to a large cluster of other B & Bs, near the huge (and very dull !) conference centre. It's on a main road, but even though my window overlooked the traffic, I didn't hear anything at night - this is probably because Harrogate doesn't seem to get the sort of alcohol-fuelled trouble that occurs in most towns on a Saturday night - everything just seems a little more gentrified compared to other towns in the UK.

The couple running the place seemed nice enough as people, and the room was reasonably priced. The room itself was nothing plush, but I wanted a cheap place to kip for the night, nothing more. The onyl slightly annoying thing, is that checkout is 10 am, and if you're not gone by 10:05, you can expect a knock on the door reminding you of check out time. However, I expect that if all the rooms need to be cleaned by mid afternoon for the next set of guests, the people running this place can't really afford to let people dawdle over when they leave.

I've been in plusher B & Bs in the past, but if you want a cheap bed for the night close to the centre of Harrogate, this place fills the need adequately.
