“A Little Disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

We visit the Falcon quite regularly and sometimes leave feeling a little disappointed. All in all it is enjoyable eating there but the Sunday lunch menu is quite limited and it would be good to see classics on the dessert menu such as Sticky Toffee Pudding or Crumble. Also pink roast pork didn't appeal too much to my daughter but admittedly we could have asked for it to be better cooked. There are other local restaurants that we find better and probably better value. The staff are friendly and helpful.

“The Falcon Inn Fotheringhay- Historic Setting for Traditional Sunday Lunch”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

The Falcon Inn is located in Fotheringhay one of the most historic and beautiful villages of Northamptonshire. It is therefore not surprising the Inn attracts a wide range of folk seeking “old English” atmosphere and a real English “taste”. Whilst the Inn offers a number of dining areas the old pub with its lovely open fire and stone walls is probably the best place to find yourself on a cold and wintery Sunday lunchtime.

The Sunday Lunch menu offers a fairly simply choice of traditional English fare mixed with a modern touch. The key principles here are about the ingredients.

The seared scallops with roast butternut squash puree and black pudding proved to be a real hit. Delicately presented and expertly cooked this was a lovely starter and one we would happily order again along with the lovely homemade tart.

The roast sirloin beef served as medium rare was both exceptional in cut and also in cooking but was sadly let down by the ubiquitous and bland brown gravy which when poured enveloped the dimples of the roast vegetables and clung to the dried edges of what could have been a really good Yorkshire pudding - had it not been overcooked. Unfortunately, the same brown gravy was served with the roast lamb, which to all intents and purposes could have been so much better without it or for that matter with really decent gravy.
On the other hand the open steak sandwich with wholegrain mustard, onion rings and cheesy coleslaw was a real success and good value at the price.
Although service is fairly basic it is responsive but the staff seem to know little about the beers they serve which is unfortunate given the good selection the Falcon offers. Our bill was in the region of £120 for 4 people for Sunday lunch. We would rate this, as on the expensive side given none us are heavy drinkers! But we would be happy to pay the same again on the basis the gravy and Yorkshire pudding improved.
Bottom Line: Decent gravy and fluffy humid Yorkshire pudding will make all the difference to a Sunday Lunch and yes we will definitely try the Falcon Inn again.

“Fabulous Sunday lunch”

This is a lovely place with several different rooms and mouthwatering, high quality, perfectly cooked roast beef. Not cheap, but quality seldom is.

“Still an excellent place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2012 via mobile

Having not been there for nearly 5 years we were very pleasantly surprised that it was as good as we remember it. Tasty seasonal food in a very pleasant environment. Service could be slicker but you are not in Central London!
