“Mainly good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2014

I stayed here for a conference. The hotel is a few miles outside Peterborough, in a location that seemed peaceful.
The check in staff were friendly, efficient and helpful, as were most of the staff (although in the evening, the front desk was unstaffed, with a sign asking you to phone if you needed anything).
I was very pleased with the room. It was a fair size, well-furnished, clean and had a lovely windowseat overlooking an internal garden. The bathroom was small, but clean and functional.
The breakfast choice was excellent. The other meals were all fine - corporate catering, and rather bland, but always edible and the choice at buffets was good.
Bar prices are expensive, and the bar is small with not enough seating for a conference group.
Wi-fi is free only close to reception. In-room wi-fi is ludicrously expensive, and seems a complete rip-off.
Be aware that there is no lift. Also note that the layout of the hotel has long arms - so rooms can be a fairly long walk from reception. People with disabilities were given rooms on the first floor, or at the furthest point from reception, which was not ideal. If you have walking difficulties, it would be a good idea to contact the hotel first to make sure you get an easily accessible room.

First time staying at this hotel and generally speaking I was reasonably happy with what was on offer and what I needed - with one exception. Wi-fi. In essence, a stranger could walk into the hotel off the street and enjoy free wi-fi for as long as she/he sat in a public area within the hotel. As a paying guest, who decided to retire to his bedroom early, I would have to pay at least £6 per hour for a wi-fi connection. No real logic to this at all other than making money of course. Why not just add it to overall room rates and be done with these ridiculous additional costs.

I stayed at the Peterborough Marriott for a conference in March. Check in was quick, efficient and friendly. I was offered help with my luggage, which I appreciated. My room was great - better than expected. A good sized room, with a big bed (and the best pillows I have ever had in a hotel). The room was very well equipped with everything I needed and had nice touches, such as a window seat, looking over the grounds. All of the staff I encountered at the hotel seemed friendly and professional. I only ate breakfast there, plus meals as part of the conference. Breakfast was very good and on par for the standard of the hotel. The other meals were fine, but I don't feel I can give a recommendation for dining here based on this alone (mass catering being different to à la carte dining imo).

So overall my stay was excellent; I slept well, ate well and no member of staff was anything other than nice to me! However, wifi was something like £15 for 24 hours, which is just ridiculous (and I didn't use it out of principal). Most hotels now offer wifi free of charge, and Marriott are missing a trick by not doing the same. And the other thing was the price of drinks at the bar - £9.80 I think for a (large) glass of wine! I nearly fell over with shock (it wouldn't be with drink at those prices!!).

I stayed at this hotel for 3 + 3 nights (consecutive weeks). The hotel is spread out horizontally rather than vertically meaning you may have a somewhat long walk from the reception. For both my stays, the check in and check out was quick and polite. I ate breakfast in the restaurant daily and the selection was pretty good. Also had dinner once in the restaurant and once in the bar and the service and food were good although I thought rates were on the higher side. Not having free Wi-Fi except near the reception was a downside. Not much within walking distance from the hotel except the company I was visiting, so that may be a downside for you.

the hotel is clean rooms well appointed and facilities are good. The ride time into town is just enough to feel detached but close enough to travel to.

Now... The staff are very hit and miss in attitude. Some are very friendly some are too formal and jobs worth. Some I am sure would charge for their friendliness.

The entire place is expensive. On several websites they advertise cheap rates for this hotel but when booking the charges revert to the hotel price range of 135.00GBP per night this happened on several supposedly cheaper costing deals which didn't materialise.

Additional and expensive charges for Wi-Fi and merger complimentary in-room refreshments add to the disappointment of the overall high expenditure per room.

I would not recommend this hotel due to its undertones of high cost and lower than average provision and staff response and friendliness.

High cost for a stay that didn't live up to expectation.

We stayed here for two nights while visiting family. The young lady on reception was very friendly and helpful. The room was nice and spotless with a very nice window seat which was well used on our stay. Breakfast was excellent on choice and quality, really enjoyed this which set us up for the day. The hotel was very busy on our stay which was fine apart from our second night when the people in the room next door woke everyone up at three o'clock being in the corridor on the phone being to drunk to stand. Not the hotels fault but just spoilt an otherwise lovely time, saying that would stay here again hopefully getting to use the pool next time.

Came here as visiting family- defiantly not the closest location to town however it's in a nice setting.

Staff friendly and good service. There was a conference on over the weekend so was extremely busy, however you wouldn't of known with the standard of service, would stay again when visiting Peterborough
