“Three Day Break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2014

When we booked the hotel we were not sure what to expect. We were very pleasantly surprised, and although the A1 was just over the way we were not disturbed by it at all.

The location is all we would wish for: the staff were very attentive, and the food was very good, although it would have been nice to have had a slightly different selection each evening.

Very good breakfasts !

If you are looking for an hotel in a village location this is the one for you.

We organised a small event here for family & friends.

Location & grounds (And weather) - all excellent
Staff & management on the day : lack lustre

Bar had no bitter, then apparently ran out of lager for a while. Bill was wrong my over £100 and needed lengthy negotiation to get it right. I saw at least one of the chairs in our event had a big hole / rip in upholstery.

Staff forgot to bring in the Birthday cake that I'd dropped off at the hotel 2 days previously. On reminding them it took ages to get the cake, then they couldn't find a suitable knife for ages, then had hardly any plates, then some plates arrived that were wet presumably straight out of dishwater.

Professional it was not. It needed a strong competent manager to grip the situation.

Excellent customer service by all the hotel staff especially Kelly Holland, Sales & Events Executive, who meticulously organised my son and grandson's 30th and 1st birthday parties in the Ballroom of the hotel.

A fantastic experience which was unforgettable for family and guests at the Haycock.

The waiters were the best, so polite and helpful throughout; a real credit to the Haycock.

I would recommend the hotel to anyone who is looking for a historic venue with character for their special social occasion.

It was an unforgettable stay for a Valentine break at the Haycock hotel
If you are a romantic person and appreciate timeless English history and immaculate hotels, then this is definitely a place to visit.
Memories of those walls will go back to the turn of the 17th century when people travelled on horseback and warmed themselves in winter times by huge fireplaces.
Once seated in one of the hotel’s lounges having afternoon tea with exquisitely presented sandwiches, you won’t even notice time going by.
My husband and I were more than pleased to be given such a wonderful room decorated in Victorian Style...with an enormous four poster, canopied bed, high ceilings, original sash windows and very heavy curtains. The room was connected to the bathroom that contained a Jacuzzi bath and shower cabin. There was lots of red colour embedded within the interior in the classical style, which is used in many stately homes.
Antique furniture enhanced the atmospheric look of the room.
I must mention the very friendly and professional administration and management who warmheartedly welcome you and will be there for you for the whole duration of your stay, ready to give you a helpful hand.
This hotel is also a perfect venue for conferences and weddings and no wonder they are often fully booked.
In the evening you can go out to have some fresh air in the gardens or watch the sun going down over the nearby river ….
I hope you will enjoy your stay as much we did.

Room Tip: Ask for cornet suites, they are very large and sunny. Our corner suite came with shower and a Jacuzz...

We spent two nights here, but sadly ate out both nights. The breakfasts however were very good although we did have to explore a bit to find the buffet which wasn't in the same room as the tables!!
The car park is a bit of a way from the room we were in and so had to carry bags outside. During the afternoon it deluged so lucky we were in early! Similar outside walk to eat so beware!
Room was good although the cleaning left some quaint cobwebs (see photo!).
There was a wedding Saturday night. The function room is away from the bedrooms and so no noise at all.
The room was nominally disabled friendly. I had to be a contortionist to get to the radiator thermostat behind the bed. Wouldn't have managed from a wheelchair.
Nevertheless - would go back - absolutely!

Following the fantastic experience we had at a family wedding at the hotel a few years ago my partner and I had high hopes for our Valentines meal and overnight stay at the Haycock. We were not disappointed. We had the 5 course set menu which was delicious and the staff were attentive and looked after us throughout. Having not stayed in a room at the hotel before we were looking forward to it after seeing the pictures. Again this matched our expectations. The room was lovely, nicely decorated and comfortable and we left with no complaints.
