“Weekend in 2 bed unit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

3 adults and 2 kids spent a couple of nights in a 2 bed unit, with 2 other family members staying in a 1 bed unit next door. Great location, with Hagley Park, restaurants, etc nearby and only 15 mins from the airport. Heaps of parking spaces, all the sky channels, clean and tidy rooms if a little basic. Only downside was the heating...kept us warm in main rooms but was a little loud at night. A little bit of noise from the road and the train line but you have to expect that from a great location. All up would stay again

City Park Motels thank you for choosing our motels to stay. We are pleased you had an enjoyable stay and the location is excellent. We appreciate Christchurch can get a bit chilly in winter, we have electric blankets on all beds, plus there are extra heaters at reception. Thank you for pointing out about the heater in the lounge, we will get the heater in the unit serviced to cut down the noise. Looking forward to hosting you on your next stay at Christchurch City Park Motels

Stayed for a week whilst touring Christchurch. Rooms spotlessly clean, comfortable bed, good sized bathroom, adequate kitchen facilities. Helpful receptionist. Plenty of nearby eating places. Great location, very convenient to Westfield shopping centre, walking distance to city through beautiful Hagley Park.
The only down side was noise from over the road on the Sat night but this can happen anywhere

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay at City Park Motels. We have spent a lot of money refurbishing the motels and have just gained a 4 star rating with Qualmark, so we must be doing it right. Debs, our motel manager is fantastic and thanks for mentioning her.
We look forward to hosting you again soon at Christchurch City Park Motels

Spent the night after a coach tour of the south of NZ, up early for a flight to Brisbane. The bar across the street was busy and loud all night long, not sure when they ever stopped yelling outside. We had an early start and little sleep. The rooms are big and clean and the Trevinos restaurant is great, enjoyed meeting some friends and having dinner before leaving town. Suggest getting a room away from the main street. Suggest taking advantage of walking to the park even if you have only a little time at the hotel.

Room Tip: Find a room away from the busy street, there is also a train track in front of the restaurant

It's a great motel to spend time at. I stayed there for 2 nights with my wife and 2 yr old son. The rooms were very clean and tidy and the parking space was massive as well. My son and I played football in the car park and also the surrounding is very safe as well. I used to take a walk alongside the road at nights with my son before going to bed. This place has easy access to the shopping complex and also the main road. Laundry services were available as well and the host had been really kind and professional. Would surely recommend families and friends to City Park Motel.

A different type of room with a lounge and kitchen as well as good sized bedroom. Lots of eating places nearby and receptionist was very helpfull pointing out the best. A short walk into the City via the park. The Botanic Gardens are a must to visit as is the City centre to see how the locals have pulled together to cope with the earthquake 2 years ago.

This property is part of the Golden Chain group of self-contained motels located throughout New Zealand. It is conveniently located within walking distance to Hagley Park which contains the Botanic Gardens and a bit further to the city center which has been devastated by recent earthquakes and is in a state of reconstruction.

The motel itself is a two story, modern building with a variety of room options. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were spotlessly clean. The bathrooms contained a shower with more elbow room than the average. The kitchen facilities are basic, but adequate, and the TV channel selections were the best we experienced on our trip. However, if you are in NZ you won't have much time for TV as there is so much to do outside.

The reception is not open late at night and the telephone located to the right of the office door for late arrivals is not well marked. This was a problem for one member of our party who arrived late and had no way of knowing what room we were in. A small problem and one that could be easily corrected.

There is a restaurant on the grounds but my party didn't ever go there. Across the street is a 24-hour market with snack foods, beer and wine and just down the block is a really good pub called The Running Bull. Food was good, beer great, and service friendly.

My group stayed at the City Park Motel on both ends of our driving tour of the South Island and wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

Room Tip: Number 35 and 36 have the added benefit of a small deck with sliding glass door access and a small g...

We weren't keen on having to enter the unit through a sliding door. At least one member of our party had difficulty in doing this without tripping over the curtains.
There was no power point or fan in the bathroom.
Our 2 bedroom unit was of reasonable size, it was clean and provided us with basic kitchen facilities.
The motel was adjacent to several restaurants, convenience stores and public transport. It was also walking distance to the city, a pleasant 2 km walk through the park.
The hostess was pleasant, welcoming and helpful in arranging a courtesy transfer to the railway station.

Room Tip: Ground floor units can be a little noisy, with creaking sounds from unit above
