“Family Celebration Weekend”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2013

We stayed here from the 21st of February 2013 for 3 nights. We were a large family group and had a reservation for 5 rooms.
On arrival we were greeted by a very efficent receptionist, she proceeded to check us in and filled us in with all the info regarding breakfast/dining times and locations and opening times hours of the fitness centre and that children must vacate the fitness centre/pool by 630pm.
We had booked a family room. We were allocated a standard room which had a double bed, a single bed and a rollaway single bed. The room was very small and we had very little space to walk. We actually had to stack some of the furniture in a corner to have more space. The hotel does have larger family rooms, if you are a family you might want to ask for one of their larger rooms. Some of the furniture was a little worse for ware.
Our entire party arrived by 430pm and the celebrations began.
We all had bar food for dinner, the menu was good enough but we would have expected more choices. Pasta dishes, curry, lasagne did not feature on the menu. The child menu is very limited but having said that the four options that were available were quite reasonable and included a bowl of jelly and icecream.
At approx. 850pm we were informed that we must leave the bar because this was the hotels policy. This was not mentioned to us at checkin, when we should have been advised.
Children are not allowed enter the bar after 9pm. Howvere, we did find out that The Brennan Hotel chains policy is that children that are residents of the hotel can remain in the bar until1230am. We also spoke to other families and they had the same experience. Having stayed in quite a few hotels over the years we have never experienced anything like this.
Usually in a hotel, if children are resident are permitted in the bar. Also, as far as we know the law also confirms that once they are resident they can enter the bar.

We walked to the Bridgewater Centre about a 12-15 minutes and into Arklow Town, approx 15-20 minute walk. Great shopping centre with lots of shops and an Eddie Rockets.

The town itself is quite large and has plenty of shops, bars and a few nice restaurants.

We used the Spa in the hotel on the Saturday morning, I had a Swedish back massage and my daughter had a facial. We both floated out of the Spa and went to the pool. We then used the jacuzzi and sauna. Unfortunately, the steam room was out of order.

On Saturday night there was live music in the bar. As we were seated in the reception area we missed out on the atmosphere this might have created.

All in all we had a good weekend but I dont know if I would recommend this hotel for families.

Room Tip: If you book a family room, request room 427. This room had a double bed and two single beds and plen...

Arklow Bay Hotel is good place for business travelers who wants to relax after busy day. Next to the hotel is located good fitnesscenter. You are welcome to use gym, pool, jacuzzi and saunas - all you need to get fit again. For hotel guests addmision is free of charge.
Hotel staff is friendly and helpful. Bar located on the ground floor offers wide range of beers and drinks, also food is avaliable.
Breakfest served each day is exactly the same. After 3 days it's boring. However you can chose from various products.
The worst side of the hotel is the noise. Walls and doors are not well isolated so neighbours are good to hear ;-)
Overall - hotel itselve is average with good staff and good relax facilities.

I stayed here with my partner on valentines night as part of an online deal i recieved which included one night b&b, late checkout and a cocktail each on arrival all for a price of 60 euro. I couldn't fault the stay at all, the room was immaculate, the bathroom was spacious with a brilliant powerful shower thats to die for!! i had bar food the night i stayed and it too was delicious! the staff in the lounge are all very friendly (apart from one young girl who was quite rude but the rest made up for it!). I slept like a baby as the bed was so comfortable! the night was topped the next day when we went to use the leisure facilities they were great. thank you for a really enjoyable stay!

The only minor negative thing was breakfast, it was buffet and the cooked breakfast wasnt the tastiest ive ever had, however the breads they had were amazing!

Just back from 3 nights in the arklow bay with 2 young children. Family rooms are very spacious, food in Howard's is excellent, the kids loved the club. The reception area is very relaxing with a safe area for kids to play. The staff from reception to waiting staff are very friendly and attentive. The area had lovely short walks and the shopping centre within 3 mins walk. The pool area is also very nice with a good sized shallow kids pool. We've stayed here 4 times now and will definitely return again

Found a great deal online and checked out hotel website to find that Keith Barry was on one of the nights I had planned to stay. Rang and booked the room but tickets were sold out sadly. However, on arrival, the manager who I had made reservation with had come across 2 tickets and kept them for me. Amazing way to be greeted to a really modern, fresh hotel. Receptionist on both mornings was smiley and very friendly and bar staff were top notch. Good food. Basic but perfect breakfast buffet. cant fault a single thing! I will definitely be back and will be recommending to others. Keep up the good work!

Took a midweek break, "2 B&B 1 D". Price for a single room was reasonable compared to other hotels I has looked up. The room had a sea view. The bathroom tiling was a bit tired, but otherwise it was fine, with a comfortable big bed. The buffet breakfast was very ordinary, but the dinner was good, in fact we opted to eat there on the second night again . Service was good, and the staff were very welcoming.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view.
