“First Night in Ireland”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

We really didn't know what to expect on our first night in Ireland, as we intended to get out of Dublin first thing to see some of the rest of the country before returning to the big city. We were situated in the Lodge, and given adjoining rooms, as requested, as we were traveling as a family - parents with our four children.

Dinner was available in the on site pub, and the choices were diverse enough to accommodate our family well. We were also surprised, having lived in Germany, that the water was free and plentiful. There were choices of local Irish fare, and of course plenty of Guinness and Smithwick on tap.

We retired to our rooms which were clean, accommodated our family well - with a double bed and a single bed in each room, and the bathrooms were clean and met our needs as well. Our rooms were plenty warm in the Lodge, so much so that we had to turn the heat down for a little while and crack the window to cool down a bit. There were plenty of choices for viewing on the provided television to appease our group. And although WiFi was included, we had difficulty getting sufficient signal in our room and had to step in the hallway frequently to reconnect to the router.

Breakfast the next morning was amazing. There were plenty of dry cereals, juices, and fruit laid out in buffet style, and they also had about seven different choices for meats and eggs to order as well. The server was patient with our large family and the food was served very quickly and very hot. The black pudding here was great!

Overall, we were very pleased with our visit to Woodenbridge Hotel and Lodge, and highly recommend it to anyone traveling the area. With the on site pub providing meals in this somewhat remote area, and the included breakfast, it is a great full service hotel.

Room Tip: We were situated in the street side rooms of the Lodge and did not hear any street noise, however, t...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your wonderful review, we were delighted to hear such nice comments from a guest. As a family run hotel, all of the staff have been with us for a number of years, and it really is a great lift to everybody when we receive such positive feedback. We apologise about the Wifi signal, this is very odd as we normally have excellent signal in the lodge, nevertheless we shall look into that right away. I'm glad we could do our bit to make your trip day such an enjoyable one and I hope to see you back with us in the near future.

Le meas,
Reception

4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013

Stayed 2 nights just before Christmas for a family wedding. Initially the vintage of the hotel being around for so many centuries is off putting. The bedroom was cold, but all that was rectified and impressions improved as time went on. Service was friendly and the wedding banquet was very good. Especially impressive was that next morning breakfast was served well beyond the indicated last chance of 10am. Being a family hotel and not part of a chain the management and staff seemed flexible as demands indicated. Good value too for overnight.

First of all when booking the accommodation you won't get advised that you will probably be booked into the lodge, thinking you are getting a room in the old building of the original hotel.
The lodge is at least 150m distant from the hotel.
While staying the staff seem to be stressed in case anything goes wrong.... will the manager give out to them?.... to a point that it made us feel uncomfortable.
We were the lucky ones getting a room in the old building. The room was basic, functional but you could see that any upgrades were done the cheapest way as possible... bathroom floor tiles I would pave my garage with... maybe. Clean though.
Breakfast was all right.
Guinness from the hotel bar, according to men in our group, was lovely.
Hotel arranged group taxi was scammy enough, they charged us for return to bring us to the wedding venue we were attending and then at night on the way back they charged us again! Of course all without receipt! What else can you do in the middle of the night and middle of nowhere then pay them again?

If you want to stay there... watch your back.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your review and while I’m glad you found the rooms to be clean and your friends enjoyed the Guinness, I’m disappointed that there were elements of your stay you weren't happy with, and I hope to address some of them here.
We have a policy here to make it very clear to all our guests, on booking, where their room is located and this is confirmed in the confirmation email we send to all our guests. If you reservation was part of a block booking which was made, it would have been explained to the person making the booking which pat of the building they were in.
In relation to the staff being "stressed", all of our staff here are with us for a number of years and the one area we tend to score particularly well on in guest feedback is the service. In relation to the manager, I'm not sure what the incident you referred to is, but I would be more than happy to discuss it further if you want to call me on 040235146.
On the taxi, our only involvement with the taxi was to call it on your behalf, any issues with price is between you and him, but I would have thought it is normal practice to pay the driver for the return journey. We do a lot of business with all the local taxis, they are all reputable companies, so if you wish to contact me I’m sure there will be no problem in arranging a receipt.
Thanks again for your feedback.
Gerard O Brien.

This hotel was wonderful to stay in we were made feel very welcome.
The food was fabulous and there was plenty for even 2 people in 1 portion.
The facilities were fantastic, Power Shower and jacuzzi bath was wonderful.
The only thing we didn't enjoy was the entertainment in the hotel it was something aimed towards the older clientel (70+ age group) i would have liked to see a younger band doing things for all ages instead of 1 woman singing songs that all sounded like the same melody.

Great location and vista. Stopped by for dinner with a friend recently on a wet rainy evening. The restaurant was busy but we were quickly served by friendly staff. The chicken special was delicious and well presented. The apple pie and cream was perfect.

Lovely location and relaxing atmosphere. Service was good and staff attentive without being over the top. Room was clean and a good size (bathroom a little shabby but adequate) . Food was good. A lovely introduction to our first night in Ireland.
