“Lovely relaxing break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013

Just returned from a two night break we had a wonderful time. This hotel is in a beautiful location and we had great weather. The hotel is old and charming and felt very homely. The staff were wonderful very attentive but never intrusive. The food both in the bar and restaurant was excellent the portions were generous. We stayed in the lodge which is a newer addition across the road from the hotel 2 minute walk door to door. It was lovely and quiet and overlooked the river. I would highly recommend this hotel for a short break and there are loads of places to visit This not a five star hotel and does not pretend to be but if you want a warm friendly relaxed atmosphere this is the place to go.

To celebrate the bank holiday weekend we booked a break in wooden bridge hotel and we couldn't have chosen a better location. this hotel offers you a perfect base from which you can take in the many wonderful sights and gardens of Wicklow. In addition it is a most welcoming and very relaxing hotel and if you just want a break away from it all and would like to enjoy excellent food and be around some lovely people then look no further. All of the staff are helpful, welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. Our meals were truly delicious and as we were based in the lodges we enjoyed an excellent nights sleep. We were blessed with beautiful weather and at times felt as if we were in France so beautiful is the location. some may say it is dated but we felt it was homely, cosy and full of character, A three star hotel deserving of five stars.

Room Tip: lodges offer tranquil setting

On the positive side the hotel is located in a beautiful location, right next to Woodbridge golf club; the staff are friendly and efficient and the food quality in the restaurant very good. However, whilst some might describe the hotel as 'traditional', it felt rather tired. The rooms were comfortable, but not spectacular - rather small and thin bath towels, quite a basic bathroom - just a bit unloved.
It did offer some very good value golf breaks - worth staying here if you're primarily reason for visiting is to play golf.

The hotel is set at the head of a valley and surrounded by Wicklow woodland and greenery EVERYWHERE. Also close to the golf club - a bonus for the "bat waggling " community, though I prefer Rugby myself.

Roaring fires, good pub food and a neat restaurant too. Excellent service from staff who care to keep their jobs and go all out to please. This may have something to do with being under the watchful gaze of their charming and elegant employer, Esther - who is brilliant at being everywhere and right on the ball. (Such energy ! - no wonder she keeps so trim.)

Great Guinness, local trade willing and very able to converse - which adds to the pleasure of a stay here. Nice rooms in this old hotel, well worth a visit. ..

Go see the Rathdrum, Glendalough, Powers Court etc areas from here.

Room Tip: Just tell Ether what you want, somewhere quiet, somewhere with a view etc. She will sort you out.

We booked a last minute deal for dinner bed and breakfast and were not disappointed! The hotel is a 3 star with no frills but a lovely atmosphere with fantastic naturally friendly staff. We stayed in the lodge accross the road which was just what we needed as our requirement was a room with no noise. Had a fantastic breakfast delivered to our room the following morning so overall great value for money and will definitely return for a break. Would highly recommend for a couples night away.

Following a lovely meal here a few months ago, we decided to spend our wedding anniversary there-booking for just one night. Booking just the one night was a pleasure-both by phone and confirmation emails were answered immediately-a rare treat! Sinead, Carmel and Michelle were able to follow each others emails no problem!
Although the weather was wet, our welcome on arrival was so friendly, we felt like we were part of a family! Our room was excellent, (albeit for wheelchair users). It overlooked the beautiful mountain view outside. After a proper Irish meal of corn beef and cabbage - hot, plenty and appetising, we wandered the characteristic resident's lounge full of Irish history photos - this hotel is perfect for foreign visitors or for a night or two away.
Our evening meal was the chowder soup (best ever tasted) and a ham/cheese/tomato panini-excellent! Steven served us both lunch and tea- a lovely gentleman. Thanks to Theresa who served our breakfast - a lovely lady who I know the foreigners would love! She made us feel we were the only ones she was serving that day!
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR MAKING OUR ANNIVERSARY ONE TO REMEMBER!

Room Tip: Like any other review, bring ear-plugs just in case (not needed by us this time!). Eye masks would...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write us such an excellent, positive and thoughtful review. We are delighted to hear that our reception staff were efficient, as we take customer service very seriously. It is lovely to hear that you thought our rooms were to such a high standard, due to the nature of the building we are unfortunately unable to put in an elevator, but the rooms are all still accessible and our lodge conveniently provides for our wheelchair users. Wicklow contains some of Ireland’s most beautiful scenery, but we believe that Woodenbridge and the Vale of Avoca are one of the nicest, we are delighted that you included this in your review. Our chef was delighted to hear that you enjoyed the food, especially your mention of the chowder soup. Sinéad, Carmel, Michelle, Theresa and Stephen were thrilled to hear such a nice mention. Thank you for your very thoughtful review. We hope you will return for your next anniversary and hopefully the sun will be shining!
