“Warm and welcoming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2014

We had a one-night stopover at Strawberry Cottage en route to a day course in Southampton. A lovely old place, conveniently located to a next-door pub, it's a good spot to stay if you have to be in Southampton quickly. The room was warm, clean and comfortable, the bathroom spacious (slightly noisy extractor fan was the only criticicism). Breakfast was plentiful and well cooked, with eggs from the owners' hens. Beyond-the-call-of-duty service rendered when I discovered I had lost an earring, and Jenny not only found it and let me know immediately, she sent it back to me by recorded delivery. Thank you! We will be back - we have another course to attend in Southampton in the near future, and recommend this B&B heartily.

Room Tip: We were in Bedford, which we found very comfortable.

Car parking was difficult. The room was very hard to move about in due to the slope of the roof, could hardly reach the tea and coffee facilities. the bathroom had a small light as the shaverlight was not functioning. There was the most horrendous extractor noise from the bathroom, we have never heard such a cacophany! small towels were provided. uncomfortable bed, breakfast adequate, owners friendly. Laurie R.

Thank you for your feedback and in order to maintain our usual high standards we have implemented the following:

* Replaced the mattress with one sprung with integral memory foam in line with our ongoing replacement programme
* Replaced the bathroom light bulb which was blown.
* The plumber is booked to change the noisy extractor fan.
* Contacted the Laundry to discuss bath 'sheets' instead of normal bath towels.
* Looked at re-siting the tea tray to make it more accessible for elderly guests.

We are Grade II listed so are limited on making changes to the building but can assure you that we have a regular on-going maintenance/decoration programme and endeavour to make our guests' stays as comfortable as possible.

We used Strawberry Cottage for an overnight stop whilst visiting an elderly relative. It was very conveniently located in that sense and a next-door walk to a pub for an evening meal. Our hosts received us warmly and well. The lodging rooms were located in a cottage separate to the main residence; our room was on the first floor. The cottage was delightfully charming - decorated in a strawberry theme. Our room (the Bedford – strawberry growing area?) was clean, tidy and well presented. Given the time of year the rooms were kept sensibly warm. Breakfast was terrific and taken in the central comfortable downstairs room of the cottage. We would not fault the breakfast, the eggs and bacon were great and the home-made breads and jams were delicious. Sadly the bed was hard and lumpy. We could feel the springs - most of the night – do not read any more into that than is necessary! Also the bed linen was old fashioned, comprising sheets and blankets not duvets and the bath towels were embarrassingly small and had really seen better days. The willing-to-please couple who run the cottage are really nice and I am sorry to upset them. I would wish them to accept that my observations are made with the best of intentions to advise them so that improvements can be made. Perhaps the advent of the January sales will facilitate a make over, so that everyone creams in next time.

Me and my work pal were very lucky to find this place had a room at short notice , a very comfortable stay with pub next door for evening meals perfect. I took some pictures of the room and sent them to my wife only for her to tell me it's haunted " well it is 600 years old but me and my mate had a sound sleep with no bumps in the night and I would definitely stay again

We chose this cottage as we were going to the Rose Bowl international cricket ground, which was just a 30 minute flat walk away.
The owners were really helpful in allowing us to check in early at lunch time prior to the match, which was much appreciated.
The downstairs bedroom was very big, with 3 beds, we were given the option of having two of the single beds put together to make a large super king-size. It was nice to have the choice. The TV in the room was huge, I've only ever seen a bigger one in the large hotel chains. We later found the beds and pillows to be very comfortable, with good quality bed linen. The bathroom had the option of bath or shower above.
Breakfast was a relaxed event in the adjacent lounge and dining room with separate tables. There were lovely home made jams and you could look out into the garden and see their chickens who provide most of the eggs. The bacon was lovely.
Overall it was a thoroughly enjoyable stay, and there is only one thing I would suggest to improve experience is to add a net curtain in the downstairs bathroom. Although there is a roller blind, it is easy to forget the need to lower it and the path outside does lead to the front door!

Room Tip: We only saw the downstairs room, which is perfect for a family or anyone who needs to avoid stairs.

I stayed at Strawberry Cottage due to a family wedding in the South coast. It was me and my boyfriend staying in the double room which was very comfortable with a great view of the beautiful garden. Jenny was attending to us giving great advice about where it eat and the sites of Southampton as I hadn’t visited before.

We had breakfast right by the window which was lovely on the sunny morning looking out at the chickens and preened garden. We both selected the full English which went down extremely well (after a slight hung-over from the wedding). Jenny again was very accommodating with different breakfast options and a selection of teas.

This was a charming, beautiful, friendly personable Bed and Breakfast and a must stay if your visiting the south coast.

This is a very special place. The accommodation, which is extremely comfortable, is separate from the main tudor manor house. Breakfast was superb. Don't be put off by the German Shepherd who barks briefly when you enter the premises - she is just doing her job as a guard dog and is kept away from guests. We parked on the quiet road adjacent to the property, as it was easy to get blocked in in the narrow drive. Very pretty garden. Pub next door was not a problem and is useful for a cheap and cheerful meal.
