Dear LiamC209,

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at the Waterford Viking Hotel, I have passed your compliments onto our staff. I was dismayed to hear we didnt meet our usual high standards from a hygiene point of view.

I can assure you this would not be the "norm" for our hotel as our accomodation staff would normally be quite thorough with their room cleaning,

Please feel free to contact me here at the hotel, should you wishto do so, to discuss this issue further at your convenience.

Kind regards,

Budget hotel offering good basic facilities (watch out for special offers - very inexpensive). Very friendly welcome and service from all staff. Good clean basic room (TV could do with update!), very nice 'bar food', reasonably priced drinks and FREE Wi-Fi throughout whole hotel (other hotels take note!!). Very enjoyable stay.

Just back from a long week end at this hotel. This is the sort of place you always wish you would walk into but seldom do. A very friendly greeting and welcome on our arrival. Up to a large clean and very comfortable bedroom which had piping hot water in the shower no matter when you used it. On going down to the restaurant, welcomed by the general manager who freely offered information like a 'tourist guide' as to places we might like to visit in the vicinity while on our break. The meals in the restaurant were varied and the helpings were enormous - we had neither need for starter or sweet. My wife always has a sweet but simply could not manage one after the main course. Service is prompt and food is hot on arrival and of course the friendliness of the staff just makes the occasion so pleasant. There was entertainment on the Friday night - chap on key boards which was excellent and encouraged people up to sing and dance and created a great holiday atmosphere. The breakfast in the mornings ranged from continental to a full fried breakfast. Again food was piping hot and the staff were always on hand if you wanted a variation to what was being served and were only to pleased to facilitate your request. Another plus was the large spacious foyer decked with comfortable sofas, chairs and tables where you could relax with a quiet drink or use the free WiFi. On several occasions when we were here the reception staff would chat to us and help with any queries regarding the surrounding countryside. I cannot say enough about the staff attitude - it was so refreshing - they genuinely appeared to be keen to make our stay as pleasant as possible and nothing was a problem. We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and we could not have a picked a better venue.

The hotel is situated on the ring road and you would benefit from having a car (which we had) but otherwise it is very central to visiting other cities in the South East of Ireland. Next time we are coming to this area it will be the Ramada Viking Hotel we will revisit.

Stayed at the Viking Hotel for 2 nights August 2013. The hotel was spotlessly clean. The staff were Very Friendly and Efficient. We ate in the Bar on 2 occasions Food was Great & good value for money. Wine was also very reasonably priced and quite good.

The only problem we encountered was our neighbours were obviously smoking and we could smell smoke in our room. This however was not the fault of the hotel. We also did not bring it to their attention.

Whilst the Viking did not have a pool or Gym we had the use of the Woodlands Hotel Leisure Centre approx 15 mins drive. (Very Nice)

Stayed during the first week of August for 2 nights .the first night we ate in the ascard bar.ribs and chicken wing combo ordered and when they arrived they were inedible as they were cremated.when we went to bed we noticed bed was a little lumpy but it wasn't until we lied down that we realised how bad it was.the springs were almost protruding the material and were sticking in my back which was unbearable so I took the drastic action of lying on the floor to try and get some sleep.considering we had a 6 week old baby with us and we had only got her to sleep there was no point trying to move rooms at 1 o clock in the morning.the next morning at half 8 I notified reception and was told someone would be up within an hour, nobody came so phoned down as we were going out and eventually a lady along a maintenance man came and they both agreed the mattress was terrible and instead of moving us(which would have made more sense) the mattress would be replaced while we were out. we arrived back at hotel around 3 and the bed had been made but the mattress still hadn't been changed.rang reception and asked for manager to come up to see for herself how bad it was but the only person to come was another maintenance man.he told us to "leave it with me" and "I'll get this sorted" and asked if i still wanted to see manager which i said i did.waited for over 3 hours and no sign of either.so went down to reception and asked for manager.she eventually came and had look at bed and agreed it was unacceptable and we were going to be moved to a different room and to add insult to injury she said if we were dining in restaurant later there was a bottle of wine on the house.we were very disappointed that all we were offered was a bottle of wine on the house considering the poor service we received.needless to say chose to dine elsewhere.

We had an extended break in Waterford during the summer first hotel couldn't accommodate us for the extra nights so we booked here, we drove past it one of the days and to be honest I was worried about the location but we checked in and were pleasantly surprised the hotel was lovely room was huge but out bed the couple bed was really creaky and noisy looked like it folded down from the wall lol but for out stay with the kids it was fine. We had booked 2 rooms as they couldn't accommodate us all 7 in total but the 4 younger kids all stayed in with us which left the triple
Room with only one bed being used.

We ate in the hotel on one evening and the food was lovey, staff were very friendly. They had no swimming pool on site but full use of the facilities at a neighbouring hotel.

This hotel is a joke. Booked a smoking room 8 weeks ago - told no problem..on arrival was told that the management had changed and it was now a non smoking hotel, and that all guests that had booked a smoking room were informed - A lie!! as I spoke to other guests that had the same experience- no one contacted anyone. Breakfast was pathetic ( 2 Days) - People waiting for up to 20 minutes for food to be brought from the kitchen people waiting with partially filled plates unable to get portions, added to the tables that were not cleared or cleaned. Pure Mayhem
The Website claims that "A la Carte and Table d'hôte menus are served each evening" - another lie!!! the restaurant is closed in the evening and only bar food is available, and pretty bland at that. There was only 3 floor staff to cater for all the guests, and to be fair to them they were brilliant, but how anyone works under those conditions is beyond me. The "Accommodation" was 2 star max. Dated, and could do with a coat of paint. No atmosphere in the place...The only good thing was the door out.
NOTE TO Management: You need to get your act together and hire more staff, or maybe you need to move on... I for one will NOT be coming back, and would NOT recommend this 1 Star hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: Don't stay at this hotel
