“Perfect stay en route to/from Rosslare”

Excellent hospitality and comfortable room with lovely view to the river. We stayed on a "Dine and Dream" package which was really good value. The restaurant offers high quality local ingredients cooked with flair - one main course was overcooked and this was sorted out with charm and efficiency. This is an ideal overnight stop around an hour's drive from the ferry.

Room Tip: Some rooms on higher floors have lovely views down to the river.

Stayed here and upon arrival to the room i noticed that the bed was sunk in the middle. There was 2 beds pushed together and 1 was like a u it was that sunken. I went to reception to ask that the bed be swapped. The lady never appologised she offered me a new room so i took it. The beds in this room were just as bad the floor looked like it was never cleaned and the old fashioned blankets on the bed were horrible i slept with my clothes on so i wouldnt have to touch them. The only saving grace of this place is the food which is fab and the service from one lady in the restaurant who is always very nice. I will never be back to stay here and if you want a nice weekend away don't book here. I would like to offer a tip the next time someone has a complaint put it right don't ignore it. In my opinion the rooms are 2 star.

Stayed here last month for a wedding, hotel is in a beautiful setting but lacks attention to detail in both customer service and maintenance.
Asked for my phone to be charged during the meal and although the lady took it to reception, when I went to get it 2 hours later it was sitting on the desk and had not even been plugged in, ( small detail I know but was very annoying) the rooms are large and clean but the tap in the bathroom spun around when turned on.
Staff were friendly but it was very surprising to see them setting out the breakfast things on the table at 11.30pm when the hotel had been fully booked up for the wedding party that was still going on in the same room, ( they did remove them when this was pointed out)
All in all, a nice country house hotel but could do with attention to detail.

This is one of the those moments when you arrive home, and the first thing you want to do is to write good review about a hotel that stole your heart, about a place you totally fell in love with! This is exactly the case for me this time.

It was a short getaway holiday for me and my wife in Ireland: we spent 3 days in Dublin and decided to discover something different, so we went to Waterford.

When we entered Athenaeum House Hotel, we instantly fell in love with it: everything was so exquisite and elegant, yet extremely cozy. From reception to dining area, from library to the room - everything felt like a very talented and tasteful person reflected on his dream to make a truely refined hotel and then thoroughly created this boutique hotel step by step.
The interior is so elegant and tranquil that it feels extremely inviting to stay and enjoy the moment.
Our room was very beautifully decorated and spacious. It had panoramic window, so there was lot of sunlight all the time. The bed was quite comfy, we felt refreshed every morning (part of that is definetely due to fresh air outside shall you slightly open the window at night). The bathroom was also very big, and shower amenities were of very high quality.
The restaurant is simply supreme! I mean the interior is so beautiful and charming that you would want to dine here every day. Massive tall windows, a lot of natural light, uncrowded dining area, excellent service...
The food was something out of this world! From breakfast to dinner, from freshly baked bread to Traditional Irish stew, everything we tried was incredibly delicious! We simply couldn't get enough! And it was no surprised to us as we saw a number of consequtive gastronomic awards on the wall!
Service was simply exceptional...everything we asked for was promptly provided, everything we wanted to know was enthusiastically presented! These people live, think and breathe hospitality. It was very clear to us that employees really enjoy what they do and more importantly cater for guests enormously (for example Noel, the restaurant manager).
All in all, it is an incredible boutique hotel with a SOUL... we are definetely coming back!

Underwhelmed by the room but it was very quiet and the bed was comfortable.
The food and staff were the big highlights - we had dinner on one night and it was really good, interesting menu and fresh ingredients. Staff were helpful, warm and friendly. I would certainly stay here again.

I stayed here last weekend on a short break from Dublin. It really worked well for me, lovely big room which was comfortable and the breakfast was superb. I didn't eat at the hotel but did bump into friends there and apparently they had a super evening meal as well. As others have noted, when you stay in a house hotel like this you do hear every door that is shut reverberating through the walls but I am happy to put up with that to get away from a 'standard' modern hotel. Have to say the staff were so friendly, efficient and helpful, full marks on that.

On the down side, the lounge area could do with being made a little more welcoming. It is a bit like a waiting room, just a little more on the soft chairs side would be a welcome addition for those of us who like to read in the lounge area. Its not that convenient for the town, but the cab was relatively cheap and you gain the lovely, peaceful outlook. I'd return ....
