We booked in for a lovely relaxing weekend, unfortunately this is not the place to have one! We arrived in the afternoon and were very lucky to get a parking space at the back of the Hotel, parking is limited and restrictive! We entered at the back entrance bringing you into the leisure centre and then into Reception to be greeted by a very warm welcome, we duly entered the lift and went to drop our bags into the room. The window was open so it was nice and airy, however it was quite worn, shabby, dusty and dark. The double bed was quite smaller than usual. The other furniture needed a good clean and not just a dust, serious soap, water and elbow grease needed here! The bathroom floor needed to be washed throughly and properly also. Sizewise it was compact with no space between bath and toilet! We headed back down to the Leisure to be greeted by lovely staff, given towels to use and went into changing rooms. They are the usual, but don't expect any privacy as shower curtains don't fit cubicles and you are totally exposed! The pool, Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room are the usual but again in.need of TLC! Very strong chlorine used and I found my eyes watering so that spoiled it for us! We headed back to room, changed and headed down to the bar for a drink before dinner to be greeted by 2 very drunk middle aged ladies being escorted out of it! The bar is well staffed, no waiting but chairs are worn, tatty and stained. The bar was packed and seats at a premium. The barfood being served looked delicious! We went into the dining room and it is a little disjointed! The first bistro part seats about 25 or so and is modern, clean and really nice with lovely views, the second part is older worn, tired and needs TLC again! However the food is Sublime, limited choice, but beautifully cooked, presented and served! Even the house wine is excellent! What a pity the Catering Manager and Head Chef don't run the rest of this Hotel! Back in the bar for a night cap we saw 8/10 people falling, staggering around there. It is a shame the way the bar is run that these people were served until they fell off stools/chairs. It all seemed very normal to the staff and happened on both nights! Obviously the management do not care as long as the cash is flowing into their tills. As a result of this excess of alcohol sleep was a non event as people were roaming the corridors up to 3am both nights but Sat was particularly bad. These people were all middle aged, mainly women and it was reminiscent of being abroad on a drunken 18s Holiday! Unfortunately this is the clientele this hotel attracts! If its your thing then good for you, but for most it's not. So not suitable for a nice relaxing break! We left very very early the next day as I just wanted to get home to my nice bed, clean bathroom and away from the Circus! Just as a parting shot when we were exiting the back door, we had to step over various pools of VOMIT... Classy joint....NOT...
