“Beautiful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2011

Have just returned from a week in the Lodges at Waterford Castle and would highly recommend. The Island is beautiful and the Lodges are up to a very high standard. Beautiful 3 or 4 bed lodges with ensuite rooms and balconys on each bedroom. Kitchen well kitted out with hi spec equipment . Comfortable living are with Plasma TV. Everything we needed was provded. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The island is very safe for children and there is a lovely play area and nature walks. Lots of wildlife -deer, hares and birds spotted daily. The very short ferry trip is fun and not inconvenient. Nearby are lots of things to do. We were lucky to get an exceptionally good week in regard to weather so went to Tramore and Dunmore East, also visited Kilkenny and Waterford City. Lodges are Dog Friendly which was an added bonus.

Last January 2011, we were lucky enough to have our wedding in Waterford Castle. As an ex-hoteiler and current Events Manager my expectations were extremely high. Waterford Castle exceeded on all levels. The hotel itself is an amazing intimate castle on its own island, and it actually feels like your own private house for the day moreso than a hotel. The staff are friendly and efficient yet inconspicuous. The food was second to none. Thank you for helping us and all our guests have an amazing weekend! Mary-Beth & Dec

Never having been to Ireland, my fiance and I booked Waterford Castle for our wedding. It was amazing. The staff were some of the most genuinely friendly and helpful people I've met...not to mention extrememly efficient. Planning a wedding long-distance is no easy feat but they made our stay extraordinary and took away much of our stress, taking care of us and our family/friends as though we were family. We stayed in the palatial Presidential Suite. It was beautifully appointed with fabulous views from every window. The bird-songs would wake you gently in the morning. Though the castle is historical and has fixtures and furniture to match, it was clean and in good working order. Being surrounded by antiques made you feel like you'd stepped back in time. Walking the grounds is its own adventure. The peace and quiet surround you, along with many wildflowers and flowering shrubs. There are tiny little deer and giant jack rabbits everywhere you go. The startling black and white of the magpies will catch your eye along with many other birds. The food at the castle was spectacular. We'd been told to expect bland food in Ireland, but not so at the castle! We thoroughly enjoyed breakfast every day and our wedding dinner was worth every penny. Scrumptious! If you want to stay somewhere that you will be left alone and treated like every other guest....go somewhere else. If you want to experience Ireland at its most peaceful and welcoming...stay at Waterford Castle. You won't regret it.

My wife and I went to Waterford and expected to stay at the Rice Guesthouse... go read my review of that disgusting place to see what I thought before I left...

We found ourselves going to the Waterford Castle for a look and wanted to stay. Sadly, the hotel did not have any rooms available due to a wedding. The receptionist offered us one of the lodges, and our jaws dropped once we saw them.

For the two of us, we had a 3 Bedroom, 3.5 bath Townhome at our disposal. The wedding had rented out the hotel in full, but we still made use of the location to go to the coast, we enjoyed the grounds (deer and rabbit can be seen on the island), the queen size bed for a needed nights sleep.

The staff were wonderful, and although we could not have breakfast (due to the wedding), we were very thoughtfully sent off with pastries and water. What a wonderful time.

Stayed with large group and booked 4 lodges for 2 nights. Overall we were very impressed with quality of decor and lodges ; all of the group were happy with facilities , comfort . Only complaint was in relation to central heating as some people felt they lodges were too warm but that can be adjusted.
The island itself is beuatiful with very good club house and golf course. We included breakfast in the castle in our booking and buffet breakfast was excellent value and quality.

Having already received a good online deal with Luxury Link, we were discretely upgraded to an executive suite upon arrival. Beautiful accommodation, and I feel guilty about making any negative comments, but I'm not so sure about the shower inside the bath. Very fiddly with a wrap around curtain, and the bath itself a bit of a climb to get into. On the other hand, the bed was probably one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in. On the evening of our inclusive dinner I was feeling under the weather and was unable to get any further than the starter, however the following day we were offered another dinner to compensate. We had already made arrangements to dine out with a friend, but I was really touched by the general concern shown by the staff, who overall were friendly to a fault!
