“Lovley Break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2014

We recently visited the Glasshouse for a 1 night stay while travelling to Donegal for a few days. The décor is lovely, nice and vibrant.

The food was delicious and so were the cocktails.
The hotel was very busy, however staff managed very well and everyone received a pleasant smile.

Will be back to visit again.

Stayed here for a weekend, were hoping that it would good from looking at their website. We booked a deluxe room, but they tried to give us the regular - while still charging for the deluxe on the card. We were promised a balcony in the room, and that's what the room description said. There was no balcony, and windows didn't open. When we asked about the balcony, we were told that we can use the fire exit an go up on the roof. It was a warm weekend, and it was extremely warm inside. Windows don't open in the rooms as well. I tried keeping the room doors open and get some fresh air from the hallways, but it's just an old dusty place. While there are a lot of really colourful decorations, the carpets were so dirty and dusty, the walls, everything seemed unclean. I feel like the whole place needs a thorough cleaning and especially air ventilation. Our room's AC barely worked, it was not cooling anything, it was just a fan of warm air and we barely slept because of how hot it was in the room. Management doesn't care about any requests or questions either. Crowded loud place with loads of kids, maintenance and upkeep of the hotel needs to clean and ventilate the inside. Of course no one cared about the fact that we chose the room solely for the balcony and space, "Deluxe" room was small.

Room Tip: Do not go for the deluxe or balcony, if you don't want to be crammed up in a small room just cho...

I stayed at the Glasshouse for a week in May and really enjoyed my stay. The hotel is perfectly situation for exploring the town and going to the pubs for dinner/drinks. I was on the 5th floor overlooking the river which was a very nice view. I loved watching the swans in the morning and evening. Although the décor is a little "different" the room was quite large and the bed very comfortable. I didn't have any problems but another person in our group was on the 2nd floor and found it was way too noisy on the weekend and had a hard time sleeping. I did not have dinner at the hotel but the breakfasts were always good. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Higher floor to avoid the noise and ask for a river facing room for nice views

The hotel was difficult to find using our satnav, we had to call reception for directions which were unhelpful. We ended up driving around in an industrial estate after following them! When we found the hotel it looks very swanky, with stylised furniture and an overall 'designed' look to it. Not at all what we wanted/expected. Although parking was included it was difficult to find.

The room had a lovely view of the river from the window. It was very clean in a rubber stamped sort of way. Would probably suit business men rather than young couples. The room was large and the shower had good water pressure. The carpets throughout were a bit strange and distracting. The rooms had wired internet which was a really helpful touch.

As a whole our experience was just average. Disappointing upon comparison with photographs on website. When we first arrived the reception had no record of our booking , but the receptionist David was very helpful and polite and to be fair we were bumped up to a "junior suite" . upon entering the room it appeared nice and the view was beautiful but the bathroom was very very basic and disappointing. The junior suite had an entrance hall which was completely unnecessary, would have much preferred a bigger more up to date bathroom (where the toilet seat doesn't slip when you sit on it) some of the windows could not be opened as the handle had previously fallen off and was not replaced. There were cracks on the walls where the paint needed touching up and the carpet had a lot of stains. The room was very stuffy and warm and although it did have air conditioning it was extremely noisy! As I have a bad back I found the beds well worn and uncomfortable and as the hotel is four star I would have expected better. the food in the bar was mediocre and not very good value for what we got. However the meal in the restaurant that night was lovely and we'll worth the money. All in all the hotel itself was disappointing but the staff were very helpful friendly and a credit to the place.
There is no swimming pool or fitness centre here
