“Fairly average but no more”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

Stayed here mid week and wasn't overally impressed with the hotel. Yeah it was nice but not by any means a 4*. The room was fairly standard and not overally big. The bed was hard and lumpy and it took me a while to get to sleep. Hardly any pressure in the shower and the bathroom could have done with a better clean. My advice is if your staying here go into Sligo town for breakfast in the morning. The quality and selection of food in the morning was just awful. Also the main restruant wasnt open for dinner which was a bit of a disappointment. It states its only open Friday and Saturday. We only noticed this once we arrived. To be honest there are customer's during the week which should be catered for the same as weekend customer's. Overall very average stay.

The room we stayed in was definitely not 4 stars since it showed many obvious signs that it was old and was not refurbished for a long time. There were stains on the floor, the furniture looked outdated and used, some corners at the walls were dirty and the wall paint peeled off in some corners. The beds were good though, although some parts of the linen smelled bad. For some reason we had a suite although we only booked a twin room. The living room seemed to be very old though and had an unpleasant smell. The bathroom was fairly clean but the shower was not separate but in the bath tub.

The breakfast was very basic. Not much choice. Very little selection of bread, only white bread, some cereals, full Irish, cheese and ham. The jam was in a big bowl (that indicates re-use to me). Coffee was average too.

The Spa though seemed to be very good (I did not use it but checked it out). The hotel even had a crèche as far as I could tell.

The hotel might not be the best choice for younger people. Most of the guests were over 60 at the time we were there.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights, on the outside the hotel looked stunning. The receptionist was very pleasant and upgraded us to a suite and we thought great but we were very disappointed when we arrived in our room. The room was very outdated, stains on carpets and marks on wall, and I was very embarrassed when I opened a door that was in our room that led into another room, there was a lady in the next room. Went down to reception to complain and they did apologize and said they would sort it right away but had to go down an hour later to tell them the connecting door still wasn't locked. Breakfast was poor, not much choice!!! On second night an alarm went off in our room 2.40 am, at 7 months pregnant I didn't need to be woke up like that, couldn't sleep after that. Checked out early next morning as we just wanted to go home.

This is a hospital that was refurbished and is stone outside and really impressive with lovely grounds. They even have their own church on site for civil ceremonies. Would be ideal for weddings. Room was great and large with good WiFi and carparking. The breakfast was self service and excellent with good choices and I love getting a pot of coffee and the newspaper. No shower hats in the bathroom which was unusual. It is a little far from Sligo town centre and nowhere other than hotel to eat really, but there is a reasonably regular bus S1 that takes you to and from town. Great as it can difficult to finding parking in Sligo. Very near the Hospital and the Sligo College of Technology.
The bar in the hotel is seriously uninviting and just functional, with no fireplace and not a pleasant place to hang out. I had dinner one evening and the food was excellent quality if a little over-priced. They need to do something about their bar as completely lets the hotel down. There is a small garage not too far from the hotel which sells sandwiches and some hot take away food and other items which is useful. To get to it you walk out of hotel and turn left then right at next junction and go straight and on left at next crossroads on the corner is the garage.
My main issue (and not the staff fault) is the refurbishment was not done sympathetic to the building exterior. What a pity as inside there is very little to suggest the building and history of the place. Everything done a bit too modern. That was my only issue. Staff were helpful and I would recommend this hotel. Hotel is well situated to travel North of Sligo town to places like Rosses Point or en route to Donegal.

Room Tip: Best rooms are on second floor and to the front of the hotel.

Dear Mary M,
Thank you for your feedback and recommendation. The building was derelict and only the external structure remained before converting into a hotel, hence the more modern interior. I accept that this may not be to everyones taste given the historical facade.

Best Regards
Sheila

We had a suite which was enormous and very comfortable, hotel staff very pleasant and attentive and breakfast was good. Only fault is the hotel is a bit out of town and means you need to taxi at night.

From pulling to leaving was excellent, only bad think I would say is the bar prices could be alot better... 8 euro plus for a large wine was outrageous. The hotel it's self was clean, lovely staff. Great place to bring the family. I had a one bedroom apartment which cost me 140 euro for four people.but could fit six if kids were small to medium sizes ...it's basic but clean and ideal... excellent place for couple or family.....

Dear 517Jimmy ,
Thank you for your review and recommendation. The Large glass of wine is almost equal to 1 1/2 of the regular glass size and actually works out at better value. The price of wine by the glass then varies depending on the wine on which we have a selection. We look forward to seeing you again.

Best Regards
Sheila
