“Tricky's lunch, and the pint of stout, is hard to beat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

McGarrigles is one of Sligo's trendiest and well-known pubs. I love the nightlife there, however, it is actually my favourite place for a good healthy lunch whenever I am in Sligo. The lunch menu is full of tasty options, from a small bites to a proper lunch, and the specials are always changing but the price remains reasonable. You can get local seafoods, game or poutry, mouthwatering salads and soups, usually with an inventive twist. As a surfer I try and avoid over-produced or fast foods and the food in McGarrigals is always wholesome. It is a real change from the usually pub grub you get in Ireland. It is nice to see a Sligo establishment focus on good food as well as great nights of music and craic. The staff are great, there is never a problem with the service and there is a nice clientele along with a warm fire, perfect for visitors and regulars alike. The pub serves a pint of stout that is cool and creamy and it is a mecca for visiting musicians. Plus, some of the hottest Sligo bands have evolved from the lively music scene in this main street pub: from the funky grooves of Sunday M.A.S.S. to the soulful bluegrass of Rackhouse Pilfer. One thing is for sure: There is a lot of Sligo pride in Tricky's fine establishment.

“Great live music venue”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

Fabulous atmosphere. Tiny venue that was rammed to the max on Easter Monday when a great live band (blue grass music) were playing. The barman in our hotel recommended the bar when we asked for a place to go to listen to some live Irish music. We were very pleased to be directed there.

“Always a Lunchtime Special”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2013

Today I visited McGarrigles for about the fifth time, it is on O'Connell street in the centre of Sligo. It is a warm and friendly pub with a mixed crowd in dining, young trendy arty slightly to old to be student types, business people on lunch breaks, young couples and older foggies like wife and I. Nice fire and a good welcome from the Danish barmaid (yes really).

My wife revisited the beetroot salad to her sheer delight and I had the special, steak sandwich. The steak in a sandwich can often be of a lower quality so you can imagine my delight when my pink as ordered meat was soft, sweet and succulent beyond my highest expectations. The manager (possibly owner) told me they source it locally from three brothers-a beef farmer, an abattoir owner and a butcher-so the staff practically went to school with the beef, absolutely the best steak sandwich anywhere.

The Guinness was good (Danish lass had to be educated as to what a Weiss Beir is not matter)
the service is prompt and pleasant and it is a most relaxing place to lunch, get there early as it is popular and deservedly so.

Only drawback, young families with toddlers goin 'Woo woo' and babies going 'Wa Wa' I had to negotiate three, yes THREE buggies to get to the door, it's a pub for fecksake! That apart it's a great place and the food is just wonderful.

“Great evening scene”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2013

We didn't eat here, but drank and listened to a great Irish bluegrass band, Rackhouse Pilfer. I highly recommend visiting on a Monday night to experience the music and the craic! We met a friendly older guy named Francis who kept us in stitches. A lot of fun!

The food was unexpectedly great, really tasty and original. I chose the special, as advised, and was not disappointed. It was good value too.
