“Our tour of Trim Castle and village”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

While traveling in Ireland last week we happened to find this lovely village and castle. Our tour guide, Danny, was very knowledgeable and interesting. His Irish humor added to the entire experience. The castle was featured in the movie "Brave Heart" and his stories of the cast and crew added to the tour. We were unable to enter the castle because it is only opened on the weekends during the winter, but we were escorted around the grounds and given a thorough picture of castle life during the period it was built and inhabited. This was one of our best experiences and would recommend you put it on your list of "must sees" in Ireland.

“Well worth a visit!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

We visited Trim Castle with my parents and three young kids. The kids loves exploring the castle grounds and throwing stones down the old castle well. My older two (aged 7 and 5) also loved the castle tour which was provided by the OPW and gave very interesting insights into the castles history and also outlined Trim Castles importance in the making of the film "Brave Heart".
My youngest son (aged 3) and my husband didn't take part in the tour but continued exploring the castle grounds.

The tour of the castle is not suitable for young kids that don't want to be carried and people with physical disabilities due to the narrow spiral staircases, but if you are not scared of heights and are sure footed exploring this castle will inspire you and your kids. From the top of the castle you have a lovely view over Trim and its surroundings.

The entrance fee to the castle four the seven of us including the tour was 16 Euros which is really competitively priced. Free entry for kids under 4.

Will definitely visit again when the weather is better/warmer as the castle tour was pretty windy and cold.

“trim castle on the extreme Ireland celtic tour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

With extreme ireland I visited trim castle and other nice historic places in the area. The guide Jim was very well informed and told a lot interesting stories of the area and Ireland. As every Irishman Jim finds it difficult to stay quite. ;-)

“Incredible!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2013

It was really quite easy to get to and there is plenty of parking around. We happened to be there when the tours were closed, but there was still so much to see! We walked around the entire castle and took some really stunning photos. Even if you miss it when it is open, you should still see it! It is even more amazing than it was in the movie Braveheart! A must see!

“When in Dublin, make time for Trim Castle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

We visited 6 castles during our first visit to Ireland, spending time within the walls of Bunratty, Blarney and Trim castles while seeing only the exterior of Dublin, Ross and Kilkenny castles. We ran out of time to get inside Dublin and Kilkenny castles, but based on what we did see we’ll set aside time to explore those 2 castles if we get back to Ireland. The experiences were unique at each castle.

Trim Castle was worth the half day we allocated for it. It is an easy drive from Dublin. Exploration of the castle Keep and the surrounding grounds took about 2.5 hours. Unlike some of the other castles we visited in Ireland, Trim’s outer curtain wall, towers and the moat are largely intact. This helps you appreciate how much of a challenge it must have been for its caretakers to supply and defend the castle; and what a daunting task it must have been to attack and lay siege against the fortress. While Bunratty, Blarney and Trim castles are all worth visiting; Trim has less of a tourist feeling to it than do Bunratty and Blarney.

Of the castles we visited, the guide at Trim castle did the best overall job of providing a complete and informative tour. It was very interesting and enjoyable. Be advised that the only way to fully explore any of the castle Keeps is via narrow, steep, circular staircases. Its not for the frail, but the exploration is fun and the views from the top are worth the effort. The grass within the curtain walls at Trim may be wet, so consider bringing a change of shoes. If you’re in the Dublin area and have some time to explore, Trim Castle is well worth a visit.
