“Megan's Wedding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2012

On September 1st, 20012, our daughter's wedding reception was held at the Wyatt Hotel. Words cannot describe how well pleased we were by the wonderful care and attentiveness we received from Barney Clarke, hotel manager, and his entire staff. It was absolutely lovely, and beyond our greatest expectations! This was a destination wedding. Our daughter and her fiance wanted to marry at her grandfather's church in Newport, Mayo. We, and several family members traveled from the USA for this special event. There our Irish relatives joined us in the festivities, making it a marvelous family reunion as well! Barney Clarke served as our personal wedding planner, and I dare say, we could not have planned it so wonderfully well without him. He guilded us through every aspect of the reception, creating for us a most memorable day. The food (lamb and salmon) was outstanding and plentiful, and the presentation was lovely. The banquet facility decor was truly beautiful. Barney and Mayo Florists did a remarkable job. The flowers were exquisite, and they transformed the function room into a glorious reception hall in keeping with every brides dream! There were so many details Barney and the staff of the Wyatt attended to. We are deeply grateful to the reception desk staff, food servers, bar staff and cleaning staff all who truly seemed to personally care for and about us, and seemed to take joy in watching our long plannned wedding unnfold. Everyone was so kind and friendly. As well, we and many of our USA family stayed at the Wyatt for several days before and after the wedding. The rooms were very clean and most comfortable, and a pleasure to go to after a long day of visiting and sight seeing. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the morning breakfasts. We loved being welcomed daily by the friendly wait-staff. One of our favorite things to do was to sit outside at the tables on the patio area at the front of the hotel. There we would meet up with family and have our morning coffee or afternoon tea, and appreciate the beauty of Westport town. The location of this hotel is outstanding. It is right where all of the action is. This was initially why we considered the Wyatt for the wedding - that and the picturesque appearance of the hotel itself. It looks absolutely charming on the outside, and it doesn't stop there. Inside the hotel and staff are equally warm and engaging. We wanted our daughter to have a truly traditional Irish wedding, and indeed, she and her new husband received it. They were absolutely thrilled with the Wyatt. We hope to come back to the Wyatt when we visit Ireland again. The newlyweds are already talking about coming there for their first wedding anniversary. Visit the Wyatt for an excellent boutique hotel with an attentive staff and for an outstanding wedding venue!

While the hotel itself is a little 'worn' around the edges, the experience is made all the better by the very friendly and helpful staff. I stayed at the Wyatt for two nights in early September (2012) mid-week and when, upon checking into my room, I found that the non-smoking room had definitely been smoked in, the reception was very helpful in offering me my choice of other rooms. The carpet is a bit worn, as is some of the furniture in the rooms, but the wifi works well, the location is excellent, and I was able to find parking in their small lot each time I went in and out. I enjoyed the overall ambiance of the hotel and their lobby and restaurants and pub. After a very long drive to Co. Mayo and Westport through a rain deluged Connemara region, I was happy to relax over a delicious salmon dinner in the Wyatt's Brasserie. A nice experience overall that I would be happy to repeat and suggest to friends traveling to Ireland.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the Octagon.

Everything wonderful - very friendly and helpful staff, excellent food, public areas, restaurant, bars - except the rooms, which were small and a little basic. Hotel's own parking limited but there is a free lot one minute walk away.

Room Tip: Room towards the back was small - maybe better to ask for a front room; the noise would be minimal a...

I stayed here in June as part of a hen party.on arrival I was told by the receptionist to park in the hotel carpark.when I drove in the tiny carpark was completely full.it took quiet some manovering to get back out and park back on the street.the room itself was very basic.tiny, with a window that opened about half an inch-no air con or even a fan.the double bed(a twin had been requested) was actually at an angle with the foot higher than the head!when our very large hen group arrived in the restaurant for dinner the waitress tried to take an order to 'hurry things along' before some of the group were even seated and before most of us had a chance to look at the menu.one drink order was taken at the very start and no one came near us again to see if we needed anything.although only one other group came into the restaurant while we were there, there seemed to be a huge rush to get rid of us-as evidenced by the waitress starting to set the tables around us for breakfast while we were still eating.as we were finished and leaving the restaurant by 9.30,and had spent quiet a lot of money there(mostly on food as drink service was non existant) i thought this was very rude.overall a poor experience.i wouldn't stay here again

As a regular visitor to Westport I always find the Wyatt a 'home from home' hotel with very friendly staff and excellent food. The hotel is a very good quality 3 Star located in the heart of the town and visitors have a choice of dining within the hotel and availing of the 2 bars fronting onto the Octagon or of availing of the numerous other bars and restaurants within a 5 minute walk. Although some of the rooms are showing small signs of wear and tear ( en suites in particular) I understand this is being addressed over the winter. However in the post Celtic tiger era we have to accept that lower hotel rates means it is more difficult for hotel owners to continually keep on top of non essential small repairs. I would thoroughly recommend the Wyatt for leisure tourists and also as a wind down location for business travelers. Carol on reception would also get my vote for receptionist of the year. Finally don't forget to check out the residents bar on weekend nights. Access to Westport Leisure Park (swimming pool / gym) is included as part of the accommodation cost.

Room Tip: Room standards are pretty average 3 star but a bright room on the 2nd floor is always a good ask

Booked a random night away for myself & my husband and picked Wyatt because they had a meal deal included and thought it would be good value. Big mistake. Hotel itself was very basic but most disappointing of all was the very poor meal provided.

Room Tip: I choose standard room and it was very small, old fashioned, had view of the hotel roof and overall...
