We arrived in Westport from Sligo earlier than the check in time, but the front desk was very accommodating and lined us up in one of their restaurants for tea and scones, which was wonderful after a few hours on the road. They told us the best place to Park the car, which is a parking lot clockwise around their building and there was ample parking.
This hotel is in a large courtyard, and is set up to handle a lot of people. Our room was very nice. large bathtub and shower, good comfortable beds, very quiet.
We generally like to travel in foreign countries in September or earl October as the crowds have diminished and it is easier to get rooms and and access to the best restaurants. The Hotel is just a short walking distance to several high quality restaurants, at least three of which are highly rated on Trip Advisor. And the town of Westport has many interesting shops, Pubs and restaurants, all within walking distance of the hotel.
The Hotel has had a very nice breakfast included in the price of the room, I don't see how you could not like the buffet breakfast. We almost decided to skip staying in Westport, and indeed we are very happy we spent two days at the Castlecourt in Westport.
One day we left Westport for a day of exploration, where we drove South East through Connemara National Park on a counter clockwise direction for about 40 to 50 miles, where the roads are very narrow in many places, and the scenery is very beautiful, so make sure your driving skills are up to par. Then we drove 20 more miles south to Kylemore Abbey, which has a very interesting story. It seems a a Rich British Tycoon purchased 1000 of acres in the late 1860's to build a huge Castle for his beautiful wife near a lake in Connamara . She had 9 kids before age of 40 and was the love of his life. She died of dysentery in a vacation to Egypt, at age 44 after spending only a few years in the Castle. She was returned and buried in the Castle grounds in a church built for that purpose. The Abbey is now a Girls School having been acquired in the 1920s. The point is that Westport is a central place and the Castle Court Hotel is a great takeoff point for exploring the surrounding area.
