“Short Break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

Reception very friendly and efficient. My wife and I arrived earlier than planned, yet were allocated an excelent room within a few minutes. Good entertainment each night. Restuarant very good with a good menu. Short walk to the shops etc. Will go back in March 2013 for 5 nigts with social dancing. I may even try a few dancing lessons.

I went to this hotel with a party of 22, we really enjoyed our stay, we arrived and checked in, reception staff were more than friendly, our room was perfect, we ate our meal as part of a deal in the hotel restaurant, and could not fault it, everybody was happy with there meal, very tasty and portions were good. We stayed in the hotel bar for the night, great atmosphere and the one man band kept us entertained. No recession in this hotel, it was packed but yet all guests were treated very well.

Room Tip: our room was fine but a few of the party complained about the noise of other guests returned to bed...

Myself and my husband and two kids aged 4 and 8 stayed at this hotel for two nights bed and breakfast and one evening meal during the mid-term break at the end of October. We were very disappointed with our stay there overall. Our room was decorated nicely and it had a lovely en-suite however we were put in an interconnecting room which we hadn't requested and the door was left open between both rooms which we requested to be locked immediately. Interconnecting rooms left our room very noisy as there was a large family next door whose children stay up very late at night and were noisy. We had dinner there on our first evening which was absolutely terrible, we would have got a tastier meal in a take away. The turkey and ham was horrible and the mashed potato had a hard crust on top from lying in an oven or under heating lights for hours and the veg was like mush. The only thing the kids enjoyed was the ice-cream. The kids club was advertised for kids aged 5-10 years but infact there was nothing for kids aged 6-10 years it was more geared for younger kids in particular girls, so therefore our 8 year old boy was bored as there was nothing for him to do. The swimming pool and leisure center was very clean but quite small. There was music in the bar every night but as parents you cannot avail of this entertainment as kids had to be out of the bar at 9pm and music doesn't start till after 10pm. Children and parents were welcome to stay in the reception area which is quite large but there is nothing much for children to do but run around. There was also very long ques for breakfast in the morning and we had to wait for a table and cooked Irish breakfast is quite small unless you ask for specific extra items but these are not offered to you unless you ask for them. However, good selection of fruit, yogurts, cereals and juices. The reception of this hotel is lovely and the staff were nice but we would not be in a hurry to go back.

Room Tip: Don't book evening meal at this hotel as very poor quality. We had a beautiful meal in the Helm...

Myself and my partner spent 5 days at the Castlecourt Hotel at the beginning of October this year. The break was part of the social dancing week. it was just great! Such friendly staff and great meals, we had a 4 course meal every evening and the choice was excellent. The hotel is defined by the staff and their eagerness to make you feel welcome. The room was a bit too warm for me - this is on the 3rd floor, the window does not open entirely. Other than that we had a really great time, our best holiday in Ireland ever. The dancing, music and meals were fantastic. Thanks again and we will be back !

Room Tip: The room on the 3rd. Flor was spacious but was just too warm for me and the window does not open eno...

Myself, DH and 2 kids recently spent a couple of nights at this lovely hotel. We had a very comfortable family room, with a double and 2 single beds - all very comfy. We ate at the hotel in the restaurant on 2 nights, and there was a nice choice of menu for both the adults and the kids. Breakfast, although busy, was excellent with the best scambled eggs I've ever had at any hotel. It was also very good value.
We used the pool, and the facilities there were also spotless and very pleasant.
The staff were lovely, especially two of the waiting staff, who were so attentive - Lita and Elvin.

If there was one criticism to be made, then it would have to be of the bar staff. The length of time I was left standing, despite the fact that a barman had just serfved a man next to me was just unacceptable. They need to sharpen up their act - it's a SERVICE industry!
Not to end on a low note, overall it was a great plkace to stay, and we would be very happy to return.

Room Tip: I heard from a friend that rooms facing the road can be a bit noisy. Ours was at the back and noise...

This hotel is definitely not for couples looking to get away from it all. My husband and I spent 2 nights at the castlecourt hotel over the Halloween break. It doesn't look anything like the photos on the website, it sits right on the main road with a car park on the other side. We decided after an almost 5 hour drive to head to the pool to unwind, when we got to the pool we found we had to share one lane of the pool with 5 other adults as the rest of the pool had been set aside for children of which there were a lot! We tried the jacuzzi but screaming children didn't quite help the stress levels. The room was ok but you can hear everything from the road and from the rooms next door. The spa however was amazing but is let down by the fact that after an incredible treatment you then have to walk across a car park to get into the hotel. I would not stay here again as I found it far from relaxing.
