“A True Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2012

We were traveling with two couples and a small child. What a treasure our first stop on our Ireland trip turned out to be. Westport is a charming city, big enough to enjoy shopping and small enough to be so quaint. The service from the moment we stepped out of our car to the moment we left was unsurpassed the rest of our trip. The owner was very hands on and gave us valuable history of Ireland and the area. Being a father he was so gracious and friendly with our granddaughter she cried when we left. They had a playroom just off the restaurant which let us relax and let her play. The hotel was extremely clean and well appointed. If and when we come back to Ireland we will definitely stay at Clew Bay again.

just back from two nights there, we did the greenway cycle route which was excellent.

very nice hotel, breakfast and staff. Located in the centre of town which is very convenient. this is not a big hotel chain so may lack some of the features such as pools etc although you can access them in leisure centre beside the hotel. Although why come to lovely Westport and not spend your time outdoors.

would recommend and will return

Room Tip: we asked for a quiet room and got a lovely corner dual aspect room

Dear Guest,

Thank you for leaving such a wonderful review about our hotel on Trip Advisor. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay, and were able to rave about how nice Westport is to live, work and to visit!

It was great that we were able to offer you a dual-aspect room on arrival at the hotel and to be able to accomodate you for your stay.

As you know we offer our guests complimentary access to the Westport Leisure Park next door to the hotel which has been recently modernised and upgraded - it has a wonderdul swimming pool and leisure facilities.

We look forward to welcoming you back to Westport very soon. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us.

Best wishes,

Neil

Small hotel right in the middle of Westport's main street. Clean with friendly and helpful staff. Stayed two nights, great value. No car park, but public car park next door is just €3 a day.
Westport one of Ireland's best towns.

If you must stay here ask for a room in the NEW WING. It was only as we were leaving that we were informed we could have requested this.
The floor boards were unstable in the room and at times it felt as if the room was swaying as in an earthquake. The room was old and tired and unfortunately the windows opened out onto the the flue for the restaurant. The bathroom was tiny and badly arranged - the shower had approximately 12" of door to stop water going onto floor and toilet. Also the floor in the bathroom should have at least been sealed; the shower tray was sealed but was so grottty. The bathroom needed to have the extractor fan cleaned as it cannot work when full of dust and goodness knows what else!
Because receptionists were unpredictable we just cleaned the extractor ourselves.
The only reason we didn't leave was that we had prepaid and luckily we could spend most of our time away from the hotel.

Room Tip: new wing?! there is no swimming pool

Dear David & Penina,

Thank you for taking the time to comment on Trip Advisor, regarding your stay at our hotel.

We are were very sorry to read that aspects of your stay with us were poor and that you were unhappy with your experience of our hotel.

All our rooms are individually furnished, and have been recently renovated with little difference inside between bedrooms in the existing building and the more recent extension. All fixtures and fittings are standardised between bedrooms and are regularly maintained to a high standard. We will investigate and check the condition of the bathroom in the room that you stayed in. Rest assured that the floorboards & walls are secure and the building does not sway from side to side.

All our receptionists are profressional, courteous, and strive to be extremely helpful. We are sorry that you found them unpredictable in their manner and service to you.

Just to clarify that all guests staying at the hotel have complimentary use of the Westport Leisure Park just across the other side of the car park next to the hotel: a facility which has been recently modernised and provides a fantastic swimming and leisure complex in the heart of the town.

If you would be so kind as to contact the hotel to confirm your address via email to info@clewbayhotel.com, we can personally reply & respond to your comments and may be able to offer some compensation for your stay with us.

Thank you.

The room we were given the toilet didn't work but they quickly moved us to another room - an upgrade room at the same price. Breakfast was good. Location very handy, clean and tidy, room had good facilities.
