“Excelent hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

I had a great experience here. The hotel is wonderful and the staff are amongst the nicest and most helpful that I have ever experienced in a hotel. I arrived late with a group of friends, having gotten lost, and when we arrived the bar/restauraunt was no longer serving food. However when we checked in the man at reception insisted that the hotel make us something to eat. We were then presented with a lovely seection of snacks, finger food and chips andwere offered a sandwich also. When we offered to pay the manager insisted that it was free of charge and that we should enjoy our stay at the hotel...which we did. The rooms were large and very nicely decorated. The food was excellent and the staff continued to be very friendly and helpful. The hotel also presents wonderful views of teh countryside and is well situated to base oneself to explore the Mayo region.

I have a Holiday Home on the outskirts of Westport and would be very familiar with the Knockranny Hotel, with ten guests staying with us over the New Year I felt the Hotel Restaurant offering a "Mulled Wine reception", "Tasting Menu" and "Entertainment" was the perfect choice for our New Years celebrations. We had a reservation for 9pm, and arrived at 7.30pm with the anticipation of piping hot mince pies, Classic Christmas tunes and Yummy Mulled wine. Unfortunately my expectations were far beyond reality so I munched on a cold mince pie and ordered a Gin and Tonic.
We were seated by 9pm and looked forward to the "Tasting Menu", there was an excellent variation of flavors and at €72pp again my expectations were high.
Unfortunately .. I found the overall experience very disappointing, staff were friendly but certain members appeared chaotic, we had to ask twice for our Wine order, three times for a Wine cooler and four times for a Latte, in the end we settled for warm Wine and ordered the Latte in the Bar, two of our coarse s were over cooked and there was a mix up with our final coarse which left us waiting half an hour, with a couple of minutes to midnight half of the table were without complimentary Champagne but we just lifted what we had and retired to the bar.
With Hugs and Kisses for our Friends and Family we sang in 2013.
Not the overall experience I had hoped for ..

Stayed there for 3 nights with my family for a wedding our rooms were massive with great bathrooms and large beds.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.Food was mostly very good with a delicious breakfast cooked to order not buffet style which usualy has overcooked cheap sausages and cheap bacon the porridge was really good too.
Overall i would love to go back there, but a few small gripes the bar food is expensive and not great, however chowder very good, also a funny smell in the hallways and the toileteries and towels there could have been more of.
But this is all i could find wrong, and the rooms we all stayed in more than made up for these small problems and im sure if we had of asked for towels or toiletries the staff would have been glad to oblige.
So would be very happy to stay there again.

We stayed for one night while attending a wedding in the hotel.
We stayed in a grand deluxe room which was nice and spacious with a comfortable bed.
The next morning my husband tried to have a shower and as he went to adjust the temperature gauge it fell off and couldn't be adjusted. We were quite disgusted that in a four star hotel in a "grand deluxe room" we didn't even have a functional shower facility. We were going to contact reception but didn't have time to wait around for it to be fixed as we had arrangements made to meet family so mentioned it to reception on the way out.
The girl said she was sorry and then proceeded to charge us €11 for a room service charge.. Seriously?! We didn't have the luxury of having a shower yet had to pay extra for the miserable breakfast that was delivered to our room.

Knockranny house hotel left us with a negative impression which could easily have been solved with a gesture of good will. Between the faulty shower and being shortchanged at the bar by €5 twice.. We will not be in a rush back!!

I was advised that this was the best place to stay in Westport and as we were spending the new year in the town, decided to go for lunch to the hotel as it's clearly overpriced to actually stay here.

Walked in and introduced myself to the staff at reception asking where you would get lunch and was told to walk up two flights of stairs to the bar on the right.

We got to the bar where we were approached by a waiter who look clearly flustered and told us in no uncertain terms and without apology that lunch is only for residents.

We left and will not be returning. We contacted the hotel on Facebook to explain and have been ignored.

Absolutely no manners and dreadful service - does not deserve 4 stars

We had our wedding at Knockranny House Hotel in August 2012, and everything from the food to the staff were fantastic. The hotel has a stunning position overlooking Westport and Croagh Patrick, and really has that special feeling we were looking for when searching for a wedding venue. We live in England, and so thought that the wedding preparations might be a bit difficult due to the distance. However, this was never a problem as Claire, the wedding co-oridnator, was brilliant and had everything in hand from the beginning, making it so easy for us to organise things from the UK. We enjoyed the spa and lovely massages a few days before the wedding which was brilliant in helping us de-stress.The luxurious suite we had the night before and on the night of the wedding was absolutly gorgeous - amazing jacuzzi bath, beautiful view and rooms and so much space for everyone to get ready in on the morning of the wedding. On the day itself the Knockranny team were fantastic and we didn't have to worry about anything. The food and service were first class and the room and cocktail lounge looked amazing! We highly recommend Knockranny for a wedding or a break away and are so glad that we chose the hotel for our wedding. We can't wait to come back and stay in the Summer for our anniversary!

One of the very very best hotels I have ever stayed, wonderful rooms, large and comfy, service par excellence, wonderful food and wine. Impossible to fault. On top of all of that a magnificent location.

Room Tip: Try and afford a courtyard room
