“really loved staying here”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2011

we've been back here twice since we've been travelling around ireland . the amenities are kept well and we love not having to mess around with annoying tokens if we want to shower. my only request would be that they put in a better campers kitchen with somewhere to freeze your ice packs , oh and a laundry would be terrific .
the staff are very helpful and friendly and it's great knowing that when you go to reception there will be someone there to help you - every other campsite we've camped at in ireland has been unattended most of the day which is extremely irritating .

Dear IrelandFlyers - thanks for coming to see us twice, we are very grateful of your custom! And for taking the time to share your feedback...we will look into how we can better freeze ice packs for our guests next year. And will see if we can negotiate our rates with the local laundry service.

I'm glad you found our friendly faces helpful and available when you needed them. We feel its important to have staff on hand. And yes, agreed on the annoying tokens - we don't like them either - hence including showers in our overnight price. It makes sense, eh?

Thanks again for your comments - much appreciated.

Happy travels -

We stayed here at the end of April 2011 for a few nights in the middle of a Mizen Head to Mailn Head trip in the Camper. This is a great site. Safe, clean, plenty for the kids to do, well laid out. We will definitely be back.

Pros:
Well kept, clean, safe.
Resturant on site (closes early).
Pirate adventure park is god fun. One day in there is plenty.

Cons:
very few and these are only minor issues.
Pirate adventure park is a bit expensive.
Staff need to be a bit more informed of the facilities on site.

Dear Imalways -

Thanks so much for coming to stay with us and for your helpful review. We were thrilled to see the use of the word joyful - after all, that's what holidays should be all about, eh? Thanks for reviewing the pros & cons - we're glad to see you enjoyed the park, cleanliness/safety and the bar. And we appreciate your heads up that you felt the staff weren't informed - I can only imagine this was as a result of it being reasonably early in the season when you visited and having new staff onsite. While we train all our staff well at the start of the season, there is a lot going on onsite so we'll be sure to spend even more time focusing on training next year. We hope to see you back again in the future.

Happy camping!

My family, three teenage daughters my wife and myself stayed here for two nights. the site was spotless with second to none facilities, the showers very clean and free, the toilets very clean and a pleasure to use. the bar on site is good but a little pricey for a beer, the staff friendly and let you enjoy your stay, you do not have to pay any extra for an awaining, hot water, showers and you are not asked to leave in a hurry even when the site was full as when we stayed. i would recomend this site for your family camping trip. we did not avail of the tour of the westport house but will take this in next time we stay here.

Originally booked to stay here for 4 nights but children had such a great time we decided to stay another night. My little girl of 3 totally loved the sand pits and started her day off there every morning. I also havee 2 older boys and i found that the adventure park, pitch and putt, pedolas and games room were enough to keep them busy on site.
plenty of room in and around pitches.
The childrens play park and indoor soft play area were well maintained and very clean. The staff within the soft play area were very pleasant and kept a very close eye. At busy times the number of staff was increased.
Great that the cost per night included electric and showers and i feel that it is not much more expensive than other sites when you tally all the other sites hidden extras.
Facilities were very clean. cleaners constantly in or around shower/toilet block

In general i found that this park had something for everyone. will definately be back next year.

Spent the Easter weekend at the Westport House Camping & Caravan site on the outskirts of Westport Town. The caravan & camping park is situated within the Westport House Country Park one of the most beautiful parks in Ireland.

The hard stand was narrow and what irratitated us most was the fact that the electricity hook-up kept tripping. Considering the high cost of spending a night at this camp site it was very annoying. We travel around the various camp sites quite frequently and never had any problem with electricity tripping until we stayed at Westport.

For the amenities they offer I think that their nightly charge is way over the odds. The walk into Westport is about 2 miles all uphill so be warned and have everything you need with you if you decide to stay here especially if you have small children. There is no discount offered for any of the amenities even though you are onsite. Not worth it. Wouldn't stay there again.

On a positive note the staff were very friendly and courteous and the food in the bar was reasonable and well presented.

Hi M-P7 -

Thanks so much for taking the time to review Westport House Caravan & Camping and for your constructive criticism as well as positive feedback on our staff.

You might be glad to hear that we have taken it all on board and in the next year, we plan to upgrade our electrics (to avoid tripping!) and we will be offering a 10% discount to campers on all tickets to the House & Park all day. In addition, we are adding a bunch of amenities to the Park next year including a shop, onsite laundry, WiFi, weekend discos, movie nights and more...all without raising our prices.

With this in mind, we hope that you'll consider coming back to visit us sometime soon. We would love the opportunity to make a better second impression. And wish you all the very best!

Best wishes,
Biddy Hughes
