“Cheap and convenient,”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2012 via mobile

I read trip advisor before I came down and knew what I was walking into. Most of the negatives are true there is a smell in the hallways, the decor is outdated, the walls are very thin and the bar customers made it known it was closed at four in the morning.

That would be a bad review but the positives balance this stay.it was a stag week-end so myself and a mate booked the train from Dublin and this hotel for the Saturday night before the Munster v ulster quarter final.the price per person was €30 board. The other lads were paying at least €65 board.the location is ideal across from the railway and literally a five minute walk to Henry street.the room was clean, with plenty of hot water.

Walking into this with my eyes open I was very happy with the service and standard.the area near the hotel would be the homestead of the dundons so be careful but since we were literally in the hotel just for sleeping and it's proximity to the station.I had a very happy, safe stay. there is a taxi rank around the corner but we were able to walk everywhere on foot.where price is a key factor this hotel is a winner the trip on the trian and the acommadation cost €52.

This was the highest rating I would give this hotel because of it's lack of facilities ect but infairness with prices like this the advantages outway the negatives especially when compared to similarly priced options.

“LOVELY STAFF, COMFY BED, EXCELLENT FOOD”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2012

i was on a quick trip to Limerick to meet friends, as the hotel is near both the railway station we meet there, lunch was just starting and the smell of bacon filled the air, the chef was having a great banter with the people he served, a friend asked him how long the food would be served for. and he politely answered, while still looking after the customers, after a while we became hungry, so we had mushroom soup for starter, and man it was amazing, but the bacon and cabage was to die for, we went for a stroll after lunch, and decided to go to another few bars in the city, time went quickly and i missed my bus home, so i decided to return to the hotel a lovely blonde lady was at reception, she could not have been nicer, the room was`nt great but it was comfortable, and the bed was clean and well dressed, as i did not intend to stay over i has no toiletries, and there was only soap in the bathroom not the hotels fault, at the low prices they charge you cannot expect everything, Breakfast the following morning was just as nice, the girl who served me was lovely, the full breakfast looked as if it was freshly cooked, and it was served in the public bar and not the restaurant, which for me was good, as once again the banter between a few gents having a morning snack and the waitress was to say the least entertaining, if you want a four star hotel, then stay at one, if you want decent home cooking, a nice athmosphere and staff who are one to one with the customer then stay here, if i do happen to be in Limerick again, i will return to the Railway Hotel, thank you for making this guy believe there is nice people who care about others are still out there,

Room Tip: just go with the flow people

“Great value, friendly staff and a nice pint of Guinness”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2012

I was flying from Shannon and picked this hotel as it was ideally located just across the bus station where I was taking my bus to the airport. A friendly receptionist checked me in, gave me a map of Limerick city and showed me places to go (as I wanted to do a bit of exploring too) and got into my room. Well the furniture would need some upgrading but considering it is an old building and has been run as a hotel for the last 40 years (been told that by some local customers later when having a drink in the bar downstairs - which I have found pretty cosy and with a homely atmosphere) I think it is quite understandable and gives the place a typical old irish feel. Girl serving breakfast in the morning couldn`t have been more helpful and for making me feel really welcome I would definitely be coming back.

“The absolution of religion will not save you from this demonic place”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2012

Goodness gracious this place is horrible. I mean WTF is anyone thinking allowing this building to stand let alone operate. It is unsafe to a horrid fault. I get it, alot of you are broke and cannot afford something half decent so you goto hostels. Your better off sleeping on the street. This place reeks of gasoline and there are gigantic hemorrhaging cracks all over the walls of this place. I just got into town and everything was booked because of some rugby tournament so I was told to try this place. I walked into the room and my all I heard was "shmoosh" on the floor. I swear, I thought I stepped on an abortion of sorts as this was rampant all over the hotel. The hotel, even by Euro low standards, is demonic. This place is a Benny Hill twisted nightmare. The people who serve here are SUPER friendly though and the ladies I spoke to at the bar area were afraid to walk the streets during the day because Limerick has a very bad reputation. Oddly enough, the nightlife is actually fantastic, by worldwide standards. Yes you have to walk into unlit rapetastic streets to get to the very small nightlife area but once your there, it's great. Theres an awesome outdoor indoor 70s'80s swing music club that was bumpin till 5am and there are some normal clubs across the street with some decent live bands. I recommend visiting this town once just to check the incredible, overlooked history. King Johns castle and the Abbey behind it are just a few of the attractions. The food in the bar was fine, the Cambodian lady running it was very nice as was the wait staff but even she never dares venture into the hotel. The location is directly across from the train station which is great for making a quick getaway. There are (for some reason) tons of cheap computer shops to stock up on odds and ends or to fix an odd problem during your travels. But this hotel must be burned to be cleansed.

“I won't be rushing back there”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2012

I stayed here in December as it's so close to Limerick bus station. It's certainly a no frills hotel. The room was small, basic and reasonably clean but the carpets were old and stained. There was no hot water in the bathroom when I went for a shower, the receptionist said there was a problem with the hot water that day but she came to look at it and got it to work. I suspect the hotel turn off the hot water during the day to reduce costs. It was only 25 euros for the night so I wasn't expecting the Ritz but hot running water is surely a basic requirement in any hotel.
