My boyfriend and I decided to get some takeaway food from here as we were passing. We normally go to Spice Of India but my boyfriend wanted some Thai and i wanted Indian so as Copper and Spice offer both it was a good compromise. We placed our order and were told 15 minutes - thats fine, its the norm in most places. We went away and came back - we ended up waiting 40 minutes for our food with no apology/no explanation.
Finally the food arrived. it was a total of €38 (rounded up) for a mix of starters, a chapati, a portion of Thai Fried noodles with chicken and a Bhindi Bhaji. This is FAR more than we normally pay for full meals with rice and a naan but it was convenient to go here so we did.
We got home - opened the bag - the chapati was greasy and soggy, the combo starter we got had two TINY spring rolls in it, miniscule. One dark and hard/cold pakora (which must have been cooked in very old oil) and one miserable samosa with a few sad pieces of a leaf of lettuce. Oh and one or two sunflower seeds. A complete rip-off.
The Bhindi Bhaji was a very small portion - it did have a decent amount of okra but the box it came in was less than 1/3 full. Once my boyfriend opened the noodle dish box the smell was so strong both of us were shocked, the meal was swimming in oil, the chicken was rubbery and didnt appear to be cooked properly and there were hardly any vegetables in the dish. The amount of oil was shocking but the smell was the worst part - it was overwhelming. We closed the box and called Copper and Spice where we were told it was the fish sauce that was the smell. We disagreed - my boyfriend is a chef and spoke to the manager - they wanted us to come down to get a refund for the noodle dish. We thought this was unacceptable as they wanted us to bring our card down. In the end they agreed to send someone to us with a refund for the one dish in cash. This was decent on their behalf but ended up throwing out the starters as they were cold and of such poor quality, the chapati also went in the bin as it was a soggy, wet mess. We gave back the noodle dish as it was untouched. The only thing that was eaten was the Bhindi Baji which was good - we ate it with a bag of microwave rice we luckily had in the kitchen.
I will never eat from either Copper and Spice after this incident. The kitchen is questionable and the food is of very poor quality. Their prices are outrageous. I dont know why we strayed from Spice of India but it wont happen again.
Save your money and your stomachs - avoid Copper and Spice.

I'm very sorry that this is your opinion of our food, on the night yes it got very busy and your take away was not brought to you to the time you had been advised, as your boyfriend is a chef I'm sure he can identify with this scenario, it just can't be foreseen sometimes. The smell you got form the noodles was the fish sauce, as the container is sealed with a lid the smell of the sauce can become quite strong, the person who brought you the refund was the chef who cooked it and the noodles and chicken were fresh and freshly prepared. With regard to the price, customers see the price before they order and have the choice to choose restaurants elsewhere that are cheaper, I have no problem with this, we know what we do and use to make our food, we know what others do and use, and that too is fine- but there is a difference. We do run a very popular loyalty card system which effectively takes 5% of everything purchased in the restaurant, we have customers with over €100 on their card from take away purchases, which they can use to purchase more take away's for free or even dine in for free. Once again sorry that you felt our food was not up to standard on the night.
