I went to Cafe Sol for lunch on a daytrip to Kilkenny from Dublin, because it was a "top choice" in the Lonely Planet guide to Ireland I brought with me. What a great recommendation.
The lunch menu had pretty standard fare for lunch: salads, sandwiches, wraps and the like. I was intrigued by the "quick lunch" option they had for 11.00 euros. When I inquired, the waiter said that it was a chicken curry, which sounded awesome to me.
What was presented to me was a fragrant and punchy bowl of yellow curry, with hearty pieces of chicken and ribbons of onion and bell peppers throughout. It was accompanied by a generous mound of yellow rice. To say that this curry was good is not doing it proper service. It was simply one of the best curries I've ever had--strangely from a cafe in south central Ireland.
The decor is charming (picture below). The guidebook said that the service was "casual" and I would have to agree with that assessment. Upon asking for the check, the waitress promptly went to retrieve it, but then forgot it when she serviced another table. A small blemish in an otherwise excellent meal.
