“Very nice!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2010

Very nice accommodation, just a ten minute walk from the Kilkenny Castle. Very clean and the breakfast in the morning was above average. Great Shower and water pressure in bathroom and tea/coffee in room was a nice touch. We would stay here again given the opportunity.

The room and house were very nice; definitely more like a hotel than a private home. The beds were very comfortable, the room and bathroom clean. There was even a tea tray with biscuits, which was much appreciated. Good location near the castle, but a little trek from the bus stop. Breakfast was very good, and in a beautiful dining room, but don't expect to get a very early start. The owners were oddly detached; that was my only complaint. Perhaps we caught them at a bad time. Good value.

Full marks to the Wallace Family. The welcome was the warmest yet I received in Ireland. Nothing is too much trouble for Pat.

I selected this B & B because of it's location. My husband and myself were COLD all night long. Heater was on when first arrived but seemed to not work from late evening on to morning. We only had one night and I was not up to complaining. I toughed it out. My mothers and her sisters room was nice and warm. We were located upstairs in the King bedroom and they were next door to us. I made my husband take his shower first to warm up the bathroom. He used the hair dryer for extra warmth. The castle is very close and easy to walk for 75 year old. We were able to leave the car and tour the castle and grounds. Mr. Wallace gave nice candles of the property to my mother, her sister and myself. Very thoughtful.

Fanad House is right across from the Castle Gardens and easy to get to from the highway that curves around Kilkenny. Rooms are large, but hotel-like. Breakfast was very good. We spent two night there and enjoyed it. Easy walk into town and pubs, but don't believe the "5 minutes or 10 minutes to town center" (As a matter of fact, never believe it, the Irish must run everywhere, although we did not see anyone running.) Clean and friendly. Close to castle, but away from noise of town center.

I stayed here with my fiancee and 10 of my family and friends for one night, pat was very warm and friendly, the house itself was clean well presented and very close to the castle and main street, we stayed in room two which is downstairs, a large room with a king size bed and a single bed, very clean and the bathroom was good except for a few small missing tiles (but nothing in the big scheme of things)
checking in and out was effortless,
and the breakfast was exceptional, a spread was laid on of assorted fruits, cereals, cold meats, crossaints, tea coffe, fresh juices and a full irish cooked breakfast, which was great.
its not the cheapest b+b at 110 euro per room per night but its worth the extra few euros for the quality,
we will be staying here again

Back from a trip around Ireland, and Pat's B&B stood out head and shoulders above all the places we stayed in. The room was spotless and very comfortable, with everything you'd need. Pat was a most welcoming host and couldn't have been more helpful. The location is ideal, you can simply cross the road and you're straight into the castle grounds for a 5 minute walk into the centre of Kilkenny. The breakfast was delicious, easily the best we ate all week. We would have loved to stay longer, and will definitely be returning there.
