Stayed one night while traveling Ireland. We visited Kilkenny primarily to tour the Smithwick's brewery at St. Francis Abbey, which I highly recommend (the brewery has been there since 1710 and will be closing in January). Pembroke was lovely and exceeded our expectations. First of all: PARKING. Sure, it's not a big car park, but it exists, which is lovely. Staff was gracious and helpful in all aspects. Upon check in, we discovered the window to our room was left open and some little gnats had formed a colony on the inner windowsill. We told the front desk on our way out to the brewery and while we were away, housekeeping came and sprayed a repellent, then cleaned the area. Also, that night was my husband's birthday and poor planning on my part led me to be unprepared in the cake and candle department. I checked with the lounge downstairs and even though the kitchen was closed, the very sweet server went in the back and pulled a dessert from the fridge and even found a birthday candle, then offered it up free of charge. Definitely above and beyond.
ROOM was large and well appointed and we absolutely loved the bath amenities. Water in the area is very limey, so having a good smelling shower gel makes a difference. As is customary in the country, our "king bed" was two twins pushed together, but we expected this. Clean and well furnished, though.
LOCATION is terrific. We parked on arrival and didn't touch the car until we checked out. Kilkenny is a lovely little town. Make sure to visit one of the many parisienne-style bakeries and enjoy a stroll by beautiful, medieval Kilkenny castle.
