“Good Value and Accomodations”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2013

A clean and comfortable B&B with a very reasonable price. Welcoming and friendly owners who offered assistance for sites to visit and places to eat. The bed was large and comfortable and the breakfast was well made and in the Irish tradition.

Room Tip: Try for the ground floor room

We spent 3 pleasant nights in The Laurels B & B .Its about 10 -15 minutes walk to the centre of Kilkenny City.Stayed in room No. 4 which is on the ground floor and convenient if you do not want to use or unable to walk up the stairs. There was a good Breakfast choice and very tasty. Also Betty and Brian were very informative about Kilkenny and recommended Campagne restaurant -Great meal - 3 course Early Bird was 29 Euro.We will return to The Laurels again.

Room Tip: Some rooms on the ground floor.

I pitched up in Kilkenny for the Cat Laughs Festival this year. I was there to see Jack Dee but I won tickets to another show so I extended my stay to include The Laurels for one night, and The Lyrath for another, just to see how the other half lives.
My original booking was with Hotel Kilkenny for two nights, and I will get around to reviewing both hotels another time.
The welcome I got at the B&B was so personal that I felt like a truly welcome house-guest, not just a statistic for hotel marketing.
The care taken with this home, from the beautiful garden to the fantastic hot breakfast, a full coffee pot made and left perking although only I wanted some; at no point did you feel like margins were being met.
In the room there was constant really hot water available which surprised me as I hadnt expected this at a B&B. I would have prefered a room with a bath instead of a large shower but choice was limited by my booking at the last minute
The peach carpet, curtains and walls could be updated. Though the black and white ensuite was spot on, apart from the peach towels. That said the feature wall of the room was a lovely Racing Green which would look good against white. Bed was very comfy.
I came to Kilkenny with a huge emotional burden on my shoulders and had the best nights sleep of the trip at The Laurels, just because Betty asked me was I okay, because she cared.
And next morning she came out to the door as I left, to reassure me all would be fine. When was the last time a hotelier did that, or had the faintest interest in you once your bill was paid?
The owners here take pride in making you feel at home, and yes, they should be proud!

The B&B is situated within a walking distance from the city centre, about 5-10 minutes walking. The rooms are confortable and clean, as well as the bathroom. The owner is very nice and asked us to choose the breakfast (there are several choices) for the following day so it can be ready in the morning.
The only thing to point out is that, contrary to what one can think, the Deluxe room not necessarily has the whirpool bath and the king size bed is simply two single beds together, so it gets a little bit unconfortable when being in the middle of the two. In my opinion, a regular double bedroom would be preferable for next time.

In addition to great accommodations our helpful host went above and beyond! My rental motorcycle broke down in downtown Kilkenny and our host Brian not only called the auto club to help us but came downtown to wait with us. Be sure to stay with Brian and Betty if you get the chance!

we arrived late on a satuday evening for a girls night out in kilkenny and were given a very warm welcome by the host who explained to us about breakfast, keys, taxis etc and wished us a nice stay.the room was perfect for what we wanted.,3 single beds and a clean and spacious bathroom to get ready in.very nicely furnished and really comfortable beds!the cost of our stay here was very reasonable and the b and b was only a 6 euro taxi ride from the centre which was great considering the room was as good as you'd get in a hotel if not even better.good breakfast menu to choose from and service was very efficient. because the hosts were so nice you would ba extra conscious of keeping the noise levels down coming back late after being out on the town.would definitely stay here again!!!

Room Tip: our room was located at the front of the b and b and as we were coming home late in the night it was...
