We stayed in Rafter Demspeys in October 07 and it was a total nightmare. I have stayed in some bad places in my time but never so bad that i felt the need to write a review!

First off, our room was directly above the bar (i do understand that its a busy pub) the noise was deafening, we had to shout at each while we were in the room. This went on until about 2am, after that, the people in the next room spent the whole night shouting and slamming doors until 7am.

Our room was really basic, the bed was really uncomfortable and the room was freezing cold.

We were woken at 10.55am by the cleaner literally banging our door down to tell us it was time to leave, this was after we had less than 4 hours sleep because of all the noise. I couldnt use the shower as only a trickle of water would come out and the water in the sink was scalding hot.

I could have put up with all this, had we not have been charged €130 for the night. This is a complete rip off. There is a hotel literally 50 yards down to the street and we could have stayed there for €120.

This B&B is in a great location and it would be ok if it charged B&B prices but that isnt the case. Never again.

We stayed here and loved it (maybe things have improved from older posts).

Location is awesome... right in the heart of Kilkenny!

Our room was very large (don't know what other poster was talking about)... we were given a double and twin bed in our large room, which was around 80 euros (November). The bathrooms were nice enough... clean.

The thing we loved about this is that after all the other pubs in Kilkenny closed, the porter allowed us to drink pints of beer as long as we wanted all night in the pub below the rooms.

Breakfast was pretty large... the Irish Breakfast-style.

If I return to Kilkenny, I will return to the Rafter Dempsey's!

Stayed here on thursday night in July. Had a single room for 35 euro. It was small but comfortable. The pub is nice but pretty quiet compared to others nearby. Pretty good reasonably priced food menu. Breakfast was good. They have a night porter who has to let you in after 12 or so. Location is as good as you'll get in Kilkenny. So, good if your budget dont stretch to the Ormonde or Hibernian.

Hi, i would like to let you know about our experience in a b&b called rafter dempseys. We have just come back from spending a night celebrating a 30th birthday in Kilkenny. There was 30 of us ranging in all ages, we all stayed in rafter dempseys. It is a perfect location, just off the main street, so within walking distance to all amenities. It is such a pity that the manager/owner is the most obnoxious person i have dealt with! We were charged 60euro per person for bed and breakfast. There were 2 groups of girls that had "twin rooms ". These rooms were so small that they had to wait for one of them to get into the bed before the other could go into the room!! When asked was he actually going to charge them 120 euro for a room no bigger than a kennel he became very rude and and asked them if they were not happy to leave. The two girls were speechless! He should not be in the tourist industry if this is the way he treats people. So as much as i would love to recommend this place it is a pity i cant!!!!!
