“I wish I could've spent more time here”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2011

My crew and I spent only one day here due to the tight travel schedule we were on, but it's a place I'd like to go back to. Margaret and Tony are lovely people who know the meaning of hospitality - comfortable rooms, a hearty breakfast and a willingness to help us get where we needed to be next. The house is beautiful, especially early morning when the sun hits it just right. I had no complaints with my room, but my friends said their shower was lacking pressure. Mary told me later that there's a magical string to pull that increases the pressure. Guess we'll know for next time! The only real downside, which is relatively minor, is that it's on the outskirts of Kilkenny. I highly suggest using a car (and designated driver) to get there, for it's about a 7 minute car ride to get into the city center. Other than that, check out the Hillgrove!

Hillgrove is wonderful, with a charming hostess, Margaret. She made us feel like old friends. The house is beautiful, the setting is beautiful, the room was good size and comfortable. Margaret was very easy to deal with via email, and gave helpful information once we were there. When we checked out, we mentioned we wanted to see some pottery, and she directed us to the Nicholas Mosse factory down the road. As we were getting out of the car at the factory, Margaret's husband drove up. Seems my friend had left her Kindle in the room, and he took the trouble to bring it to her. Can't beat hospitality like that.

My sister and I stayed here one night. Margaret was very helpful with showing us where to go, what to see, best place to park. B&B a bit away from town (not walking distance if you want to go out) but Kilkenny is a beautiful town. Really enjoyed our stay. Food was excellent. Room was comfortable. No internet access.

We two couples stayed with the Drennans on a weekend night in July and very much enjoyed our visit. They are gracious hosts, helpful and informative about suggestions for touring their intriguing city (castle and design center highly recommended). Our rooms were lovely, comfortable, and equipped with everything a traveler might need. Breakfast was delicious, with a choice of many different offerings, including a full Irish fried. This B & B is their home, pridefully maintained, and their concern for their guests can't be beaten. I hope we can visit with them again.

I loved this bed and breakfast. Margaret and Tom were wonderful! Margaret helped us get around Kilkenny with a local town map. The food at the B&B was great! Very quite and easy to sleep. Lots of room for parking........awesome back yard for relaxing. They take pride in their home. Would love to go back there to stay a few days and see more of Kilkenny

Stayed there for three days only. Lovely house, lovely hosts. Rooms are neat, clean, and pretty, and the breakfast menu is one to pick from, wow, unusual for a B&B. For a breaky like that you easily pay 6 - 7 € in town, and here it was included in the price, it was incredible. Tony and Margaret are wonderful hosts, and help you out whenever possible. The house is a bit outside of town, but therefore quiet, so we didn´t mind the drive. I can only recommend this place, if you think about how much a hostel costs, and how much this was - for what you get it´s the best value. Wish more places like that existed!

Hillgrove is a beautiful home in a parklike setting not far from town. Driving into Kilkenny takes a matter of minutes. Margaret and Tony are wonderful hosts who provided information on pubs for dinner and in town places to park. A breakfast menu was placed outside your door nightly with many choices. Breakfast was wonderful, particularly the porridge with Irish mist. Rooms were cozy and clean. Our only problem was getting to Hillgrove the first day. Kilkenny has traffic restrictions and some roads in the center of town are one way during the day and heavily traveled.
