“Charm and Hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2012

Our hostess Val greeted us at the door of her lovely home, and that was the beginning of an exceptional visit. Val's home is so lovely, I made photographs to bring home so I could show others what a lovely place we got to visit. Val obviously has a taste for decorating; her home is very inviting. The gardens are just as spectacular; flowers and plants are strategically placed to so that they may be viewed from inside the house as well as from the outside. We had a large party of seven, one unannounced since our daughter was able to take 96 hours of leave from her duty station in another country to join us. We were all accommodated perfectly. We enjoyed coffee and a chat with Val shortly after our arrival, and she shared her opinions and expertise about all that is Kilkenny, which we, as first time visitors, really appreciated. Because of her help, we had a lovely dinner in town and saw a bit of the town in the process. Breakfast was an event in and of itself! We met a lovely lady from Germany and a couple from France at our table. Those are things that don't often happen in an impersonal hotel. If you go to Kilkenny and wish to be treated royally, stop by the Dunronin B&B! You will not be disappointed.

It was really kind of you to take the time and trouble to express your feelings on your recent visit here. We were delighted to see that you got the right result in that football match in the Aviva stadium.
Your comments regarding the decor, flowers etc are so kind and uplifting. It really helps to keep one going on those days when you might be feeling below par!
Sincere thanks again and best wishes to you all.

Val and Tom are really the best. The best, most considerate hosts. The most keen proponents of Irish culture, heritage and tourism. The kindest people you would ever wish to meet.

And the room and breakfast were excellent too. Thanks for all the great memories of Ireland.

This B&B is located just outside the charming town of Kilkenny. It's a little walk down to the town, and we were glad to be in this quiet location and not in the middle of all the hen party atmosphere that pervaded Kilkenny on the weekend. The town is great to visit, with lots to do, good restaurants, and an interesting castle, tower to climb and scenic views. The B&B has free parking and makes it easy to take day trips. Val is happy to give great advice on where to go and what to see.

Very comfortable home right outside Kilkenny which is a perfect Irish town to visit for great music and food. The host Val and Tom were most welcoming and felt almost like family. We truly enjoyed our entertainment in the morning with Tom, his drums and our sing along. The breakfast was in the true traditional manner. I would definitely recommend

My wife & I found Tom & Val's B&B. Unfortunately, our daughter and her 2 children got lost in Kilkenney. Upon our arrival, Tom said hop in my car and we will go & find them. Find them he did! Our 1 night stay was marvelous, the best in our 15 day's in Ireland. Hospitality, location, (easy walk to town), super clean, lovely rooms and a delicious Breakfast, all were excellant!! Our only regret is we didn't stay multiple nights. Val & Tom are extremely wellcoming, attentive and truly gracious hosts...Thank You - Val & Tom.

Jim & Anne
ps: They do have a Beautifu Garden Area.

Val and Tom's hospitality at Dunromin will be a very hard act to follow. We stayed for a week at the beginning of July and everything about our stay was superb ( apart from the weather and if Val and Tom could have changed that I'm sure they would have ). The B&B is very clean, comfortable and welcoming with lots of little extra touches. The breakfast every morning was outstanding, a lot of hotels don't offer such a choice, always fresh and tasty. Val and Tom are just exceptional hosts, nothing is too much trouble and their kindness is on another level completely !! We have no hesitation about recommending Dunromin, you just could not do any better. Thanks very much Val and Tom.

Val and Tom are probably the most attentive and genuine hosts I have come across: the spacious rooms are furnished with thoughtful touches such as books and magazines, hair dryer, scented sachets in the closet and a note informing us that an iron and board can be available if needed. The furnishing is rather quaint with matching wall paper and soft covers, and the little girl with us loved it - She thought she was in 'a princess room'!
Even though, they were away during our arrival, they made sure that someone was around to welcome us, and had already annotated recommended dining places on a map for us. When we returned from dinner, Val and Tom were there, ready to chat and to advise us on our plans for the next day (and even beyond!). They even had instructions for scenic driving routes to other popular destinations printed! This was so reassuring since Kilkenny was in the early leg of our trip and we were still uncertain about exploring the area.
This property is perfect if you don't mind a little bit of a walk (esp if it's raining) to town. The other reason I did not give this a full score is also because my room faced the road and its accompanying noise. But on the overall, I'd highly recommend this B&B still!

We spent 3 nights with Val and Tom and were made to feel very much at home. Val cooks a delicious breakfast, the house is very cosy and both Val and Tom were invaluable with their local knowledge and ideas for travelling further a field.
The B&B is situated within a short walking distance of the town centre and all the town's attractions.
Don't miss Kilkenny Castle and the beautiful grounds.
