We recently stayed in hotel Kilkenny for 2 nights, Friday and Saturday night as we were attending our friends wedding in a different hotel. I hate giving this hotel only 3 stars but unfortunately thats all it scored for me.
The location of the hotel is good, easy access from all main routes and only 10 minutes walk to the city center.
Reception and all ground floor areas look renovated and fresh, so you do get a very good impression when you walk into the hotel. Unfortunately the rooms are not as good. We stayed in the standard room on the 4th floor and our room was small, with a very dated bathroom. It looked like they did update the actual room, but didnt do anything with the bathroom. For me a good shower is one of the essentials in any hotel but in our room we had this old type non movable shower, which was placed way too high and with a low water pressure I literally got dribbles of water on me.
The bed was ok, but blanket was very thick and pillows were too soft (but that can be all down to personal preferences).
Breakfast in the morning was ok, I expected a better selection for a 4* hotel, but there was something there for everyone.
My biggest 2 problems with the hotel were:
- noise from corridors. On Friday night there was a wedding in the hotel and you could hear people passing by our room all night long. I would understand if people were shouting but you could hear even a very quiet conversations through the door and I am not a very light sleeper. It was the same on Saturday night, with fewer people passing by as there was no wedding but still at all hours of the night. It seemed like the bedroom doors were very thin and didnt have any noise cancellation on them at all.
- no air conditioner in the room. I know we are in Ireland and individually controlled a/c maybe not required for a 4* hotel but I found the inability to control the room temperature frustrating. At night our room was very warm as they had heating on and no way of cooling the room down apart from opening the window, which wasnt an option for us as we had our baby's cot by the window. And together with a thick blanket provided and noise from corridor it was just impossible to get a good night sleep.
We booked his hotel through one of the online deals and in total it costed us €110 for 2 nights, which was ok for what we got, but I would ve been very disappointed if we had to pay full price which was over €250 for 2 nights.

With regards to the noise levels while we have notices on each floor to ask our guests to keep noise levels to a minimum sometimes they do not take our other guests into consideration my apologies for this.
Hopefully we shall have the pleasure of welcoming you back to us in the future.
