“Quite expensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

We stayed here 2 days and one of them was at the weekend rate, which was quite expensive for this level of hotel/motel near the road.
We asked to have our room changed to one overlooking the garden, unfortunately there was a wedding so the gardens were quite noisy.
This is not a particularly pretty setting and there are wonderful alternatives albeit not in Tralee.
The staff however were particularly friendly and the spa is very nice.

Room Tip: Overlooking the gardens.

Dear Sherlock1954,

Thank you for taking the time to post your review.

I must point out that our rates are very reflective of our position in the market and if travelling at peak times then they will cost more than at off peak times.

I would like to mention that there is a star rating system here in Ireland of which we are 4 star country manor hotel, and that Motels are not categorized here. We have 4 other garden areas in the Hotel and we would of happily changed your room if requested to a room near our Spa.

Kind regards,
Padraig McGillicuddy

We stayed one night at Ballygarry House enroute from Doolin to Dingle. We were pleasantly surprised by how luxurious this waystop proved to be. This is a conveniently located stopping point for the night on that well-traveled path. We were able to to spend a full day sightseeing the Aran Islands and the Cliffs of Mohrer, crossed the Shannon River by ferry near Kilrush over to Tarbert, and still made Ballygarry before nightfall.

The hotel is one of the most beautiful 4-star establishments in western Ireland. We stayed in 8 hotels in 12 nights, and this one was the one that we found most delightful. Our room was spacious, well-appointed, impeccably clean, and wonderfully quiet. We were suffering from jet lag, and we had a restful night of sleep in a comfortable bed. Service was cordial and efficient. The Brooks restaurant offered us a delcious dinner. Don't miss the apple tart for dessert!

Technology was spotty in this part of Ireland, but our laptop and I-Pad worked perfectly with Ballygarry's Wi-Fi.

We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone driving between Dingle and Doolin or Galway. You will find this a welcoming and luxurious resting spot along the way.

Just one qualification: Ballygarry is a few miles out of the center of Tralee, so you need transportation to get to and from this location. For many travelers who rent cars in Ireland, the location should not be an impediment to a wonderful night's stay.

Dear JWedlock,

Thank you for posting your glowing review of your recent stay. I am delighted that you enjoyed your visit and I will pass these comments on to all involved.

As I often say the bricks and mortar of a Hotel can be rebulit, but I could never rebuild the staff that I have here in the Hotel, many who have been here for over 30 years.

I do hope that I will have the opportuinity to welcome you back to Ballygarry House.

Best wishes,
Padraig McGillicuddy

We had the most wonderful 3 nights at the Ballygarry. The location is fabulous for touring around Kerry and seeing all the sites. The true magic of Ballygarry is the staff - so warm & friendly - nothing is ever too much trouble. The hotel is beautifully furnished and well mantained. All areas are spotlessly clean and inviting. The family bedroom was huge and the children loved the touch of chocolates on pillows each night. There was no noise to disturb our sleep in the most comfortable of beds. The outdoor areas & gardens are lovely to walk around, sit and have an evening drink or to watch the children playing. The standard & quality of food is outstanding, we ate in both the restaurant & bar area and the service was also terrific. I cannot praise the hotel enough - we will definately return. A wonderful hotel experience.

We recently spent one night here and I wish we could have spent more! The room was clean, quiet and comfortable with a huge bathroom. This was the best hotel in Ireland we stayed at out of 9 hotels and B&Bs. We sat at the bar for dinner and had great service and food. I highly recommend this hotel.

It was really like sitting in to the most comfortable armchair you could imagine! From the first greeting on the phone by Marie the hotel and staff were accomodating and lovely. THE FOOD! Delicious both in the bar and the restaurant.Resonable and so precisely cooked and well presented .The superior room that we were up graded to for free was beautiful, comfortable and spacious. We even got a 100 euro voucher thrown in for the spa !I'm not in to massage etc but I really enjoyed the thermal suite and hot tub and relaxation room, which you could use anyway mmmmm. The girls were great doing nails and making you feel right at ease, not in a shallow way by any means.I'd recommend it highly.

Room Tip: WE had a room looking out onto the garden and that was lovely.

I am delighted to read your lovely comments and will certainly pass them on to all involved.

I just wish to clarify the Spa voucher mention for other prospective guests- On certain accommodation packages there is a Spa voucher of 100euro per room included in the overall price- just in case we are inundated with requests for free vouchers!

Thank you again for your kind words and I look forward to welcoming you back to Ballygarry House in the future.

Stayed here for a wedding recently. The attention from the staff was top notch. The decor and surroundings were beautiful. The food was excellent, from the breakfasts to the wedding meal itself. I would definitely recommend it as a place to stay.
