“Really special rooms but at a price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2014

Lovely place to stay but be careful if you book online with kids as we had to pay €50 extra per night on top of what we had paid online. Expensive stay and misleading website. Once we got over the price, we enjoyed our stay.

Dear Trevjoknox,

Thank you for your review.
It was a delight to accommodate you.
However as expressed to you at check-in you booked a double room and you had a copy of a double room reservation. However at check-in there was four people there - which was a different a room type to that you booked. The children were charged 50% discount.

We had 3 nights in the fairview and found it to be very good. Our room was large and very clean. The hotel staff were extremely welcoming and choice at breakfast was also very good. Only one problem was a very noisy guest in the next to us who had to be told to keep quiet, this might have something to do with the thin walls mentioned by another reviewer.

I booked in at the last minute to attend a family occasion in Ireland. They were very helpful in arranging the booking. The hotel is in the centre of Killarney so within easy walking distance of the National Park (which is very beautiful), wonderful restaurants pubs and shops and the cinema. Yet it is secluded up a side street.

I wanted somewhere welcoming, comfortable, of a good standard and safe for a woman travelling alone. I was not disappointed. The hotel is beautifully furnished and immaculately clean. The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. The breakfast was superb with a wide choice and good cooking.

I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: I had an executive room.

On arrival after a hard day's work and long journey, I was informed that 'the best room in the house' had just come free if I would like to upgrade. I declined as I didn't want to spend the little bit extra (silly mistake on my part!). Luckily the very kind lady trotted off to the manager and came back offering me a free upgrade to the penthouse suite... well, it was magnificent in every way- a balcony with glorious views of the mountains and sky; huge room; a deliciously comfortable bed with crisp white cotton sheets; a bathroom to die for... top quality. I'll be back!!

Room Tip: check if the penthouse is free!!

This hotel is in the perfect location for the town centre. Rooms are lovely and spacious, bath rooms are too. Very clean and well maintained. Staff are friendly and the breakfast is fantastic.
Would highly recommend this hotel, good value for money.

First the good - very good location in Killarney, you're close to everything including short walking distance to the train station. The front desk people were very nice, although they didn't go over the top to make me feel welcome or anything - just standard, friendly people.

Now the bad - the walls and doors are absolutely paper thin, and the curtains too. For the life of me I can't understand why hotels in Ireland don't have blackout curtains, unless everyone just loves waking up at 4 AM in the summer. It's absurdly light in the very early mornings here, and stays light until around 10 PM, so to get any kind of reasonable sleep you'd think they would install blackout curtains in every room. But no.

I was woken up at 3 AM on multiple occasions by slamming doors and people walking and talking loudly in the hallway. I could hear almost everything happening in the adjoining room. And then to make it worse, once I finally got to sleep, I was woken up again at 8 AM ish by the very loud maids cleaning the rooms and vacuuming, etc. I slept maybe 4 hours a night when I was there, it was terrible. And on that note, the beds were uncomfortable with sagging mattresses. The bathroom and shower were also disappointments, and they provided only the bare minimum of toiletries. The breakfast was mediocre but serviceable - I'm sure some people enjoyed it, but there are far better options in Killarney for breakfast that I would have hated to miss out on.

Honestly I'm not sure what this place could do better other than remodel the entire place and put some soundproofing in, which is unlikely to happen. That's why I didn't have any feedback for them in person, what can they really do? But for more than EUR 100/night, I'm sure you can do better when choosing accommodation in Killarney, which is a very great place otherwise.

We only stayed the one night but James and his staff could not have been more helpful , we will definitely return and stay here again, the rooms were well appointed and very comfortable and the Irish breakfast and hospitality was second to none.
