“A Very Nice Place To Stay In Killarney Area”

We selected this Guest House based on its location slightly outside of the overly touristy town of Killarney and its proximity to Killarney National Park. As walkers, we wanted access to the Muckross area without parking hassles and competition with tour buses. We also wanted a quiet location and non-fussy atmosphere without compromising comfort and quality. Friar's Glen Guest House was all of these and more. As we drove further and further south away from the congestion of Killarney, and onto the narrow tree-lined road on which the guest house resides, we felt ourselves saying "ahhhhh." Mary, our hostess, was most kind and informed. At her suggestion, we took two hikes/walks over the next two days, both of them highlights of our two-week trip to Ireland. Our room was quite large and certainly modern, even while maintaining a country feel. Breakfasts were served on fine china in a sun lit dining room surrounded by fields and green hills. A lovely sitting room offered fireplace warmth each night. Other guests mingled there freely-- we were all equally pleased to be in residence. Its a relatively new structure, maybe 15 years old, but it was built with great attention to detail and style. We do not hesitate to recommend it. Even the pre-teen with us gave it a big thumbs up. And very reasonable for the quality!

Pure luck when we (me, my wife and two kids, nearly 5 and 7 years old) were looking for a home for a couple of nights. We nearly drove past but i decided to find out, whats at the end of this beautiful gateway. We were both very surprised about this wonderful place to stay and the warm hearted welcome. So we decided to come back in a few days and stay here for two nights. Sad to say, that we`d have been here a couple of days longer, but our vacation was almost over.
The rooms are very clean, breakfast perfect, the owner two nice and helpfull persons and the landscape is unbelievable. Sitting in the dining room with this great view of the mountains and the wild green is a perfect start. The room with the fireplace was nice to sit in the evening, chat to other guests or just read a book.
It`s a ten minute drive to killarney center, but only a 5 minute walk to the entrance of the muckross house.
i always felt very good, after driving to killarney in the evening, getting some guinness for the fireplace and leaving the good looking hotels, like pearls on a string but with no individual charme at the main road to killarney, behind, driving back into nature to this advisable accomodation.
If we will come back to ireland, this will be our 1st choice!

“Beautiful B&B in a Beautiful Setting”

This is a beautiful B&B and one of the only ones that actually sits in the National Park itself. We had a huge room on the ground floor with a big bathroom, and table and chairs, a desk, an armchair, a closet, and a double bed and twin bed. The rooms are so comfortable, you won't want to leave-- except for the fact that the outside grounds of the B&B are even more beautiful than the inside. You can literally leave the B&B and walk right into the National Park. We highly recommend seeing Muckross House and the Abbey. For dinner one night, the owners recommend the Lake Hotel. We had an amazing view of the lake and a great dinner. Breakfast at the B&B is a great treat! I highly recommend the pancakes, which are like thin crepes and very, very tasty. The B&B owners also made sure that we had a map and plenty of information before our drive to the Dingle Peninsula. We appreciated all the hospitality and had a wonderful stay. There is a reason this B&B is rated so highly-- don't miss finding out for yourself!

“Great holiday”

Friar's Glen

Jun 29, 2008

Fantastic in all respects if you prefer peace and quiet to the hustle and bustle of the town. Great views, peaceful setting, very comfortable, clean, spacious rooms, lovely open fire with books to peruse, fanatastic choice of breakfasts. Mary the owner and Bridget made our stay all the more enjoyable by helping us plan our days to maximise on what the area has to offer ranging from hikes, coastal drives, visiting Muckross estate, Irish music and restaurants.

“A peaceful retreat!”

Friar's Glen

Jun 28, 2008

We have recently returned from a 3 night stay at this delightful accommodation. From the moment I received my first e mail I was sure that this was going to be a great place to stay! We were not disappointed!
Friar's Glen is a beautiful house, in a lovely setting and is run by Mary and John. Mary made us extremely welcome on arrival before showing us to our "luxury" room, overlooking the garden.
The breakfast was to die for and in the evening the lounge, with it's peat fire, was a welcome place to relax and mull over the day's events.
If you want good food, good company and a lovely place to stay. I suggest you book a break at Friars Glen!
I have no hesitation in recommending this delightful home.
