“Great Location, Great Staff, BUT....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

The hotel is old, so I was hoping for charming, but it wasn't. I was traveling with a group and had an opportunity to see several rooms. They all had their issues. The rooms upstairs had a soured dirty smell like would come from carpet that had remained wet. My room was downstairs and had a large sky light which had no covering on it, so when I went to bed at 10pm, the room and my bed were still brightly lit from the late setting sun. The heat didn't work. The room was damp and had no windows. There was a good bit of mold growing in the corners of the room and in the corners in the sky lights. The linens were old and mismatched. We didn't get a hand towel or a bath mat. The carpet was old and badly stained. You didn't want to walk on it without shoes. The bathroom was tiny. They had made a shower by hanging a shower curtain in one very small section of the tub. You couldn't shower without touching the dirty wet curtain with your whole body. Friends in another room downstairs found their room to smell like a dirty ash tray. The carpet smelled terrible.

This by far has been the worst place we've ever stayed. The room Smelled musty but we were in a rush to meet people we just dropped our bag and left for a night out. when we arrived back i took off my shoes(heels killing me!) the carpet in the hall corridor was wet.....ughhh, my husband had put his hand trailing along the wall....he looked it was black.....ughhh, we went to bed in a smelly damp room, the covers smelled musty, the room was freezing, way out dated(you'd get over that if it was clean) it was just bad bad bad......

Room Tip: Avoid 107 at all cost, friends had different room experience they said theirs wasn't musty or da...

We walked in and walked out! Not a place for a family that's for sure! Room pictures are misleading. The place was dirty, dank and old - updates needed badly. If you are single person travelling and don't mind staying in a hostel type place, I'm sure you would find it to be fine! Otherwise, do yourself a favor and walk across the street to the Robeen House - excellent place!

This hotel was decent, but definitely no luxury to it at all. While the rooms were all unique and charming (as we travelled w a group of 25, and all had different rooms), the walls were paper thin and the doors squeaked with every exit and entry. The location is decent, within a 10 min walk to the city center. If seeking help from the front desk, don't expect an immediate answer by phone or to find staff readily available at the desk--they seemed to have multiple duties that tied them up all the time. Overall a decent stay, but not the best experience ever.

We had previously stayed in this place a few years ago and it was grand. This time was different. There was a really bad, lingering smell of damp carpet in the room. The hairdryer and kettle didn't work. We were kept awake by noise from other guests most of the night (doors banging, loud knocking, shouting, swearing etc etc). Our 4 year old was so scared she hardly slept. The staff were apologetic and sympathetic when I reported this the following morning but this wouldn't be enough to convince me to stay there again.

Room Tip: don't use room 106!

on arrival at this B&B after driving 1.5 hrs we were told our booking was lost as their laptop was stolen!this was an unfortunate thing to happen any business but they way we were treated was awful. we were offered rooms in 2 separate b&b's one with a twin room. this did not suit as were away with friends that we hadn't seen in a long time. The girl on reception did her best and contacted the owner but it took 2 hours to find us somewhere to stay.At this stage it was nearly 9pm. we never got an apology.

This hotel was great, booked late but it didn't matter. Great price, good service, clean rooms, great location, perfect. If i had to be picky then it would be that breakfast the first day was only ok but the second was perfect. Cant really complain with this hotel, they really are doing it right. Great friendly staff and exactly what we were after.

Room Tip: Ask for what you want, good staff that listen
