We just returned from a wonderful trip to Ireland. Among the many "grand and lovely" experiences was our stay at the Killeen House just outside of the city of Killarney.
The small hotel and grounds are beautiful, the owners (Michael and Gerladine) as well as all of the staff, are warm and welcoming, the food is excellent, and the answers to any requests made by the guests are "of course" or "no problem".

This was our first stop on our 2 week trip and it was a perfect choice. Our only regret was that we had to leave the Killeen House to continue our vacation.

If you are planning a visit to the Killarney area - look no further than the Killeen House. It is truly a reflection of Ireland - warm, welcoming, and charming. It will put a smile on your face.

Everything positive you have read thus far about the Killeen House Hotel in Aghadoe {Lakes of Killarney} , Ireland is true.

We were there just last week [August 18 and 19, 2007] and the staff - Michael, Geraldine, Charlie, Theresa, Janet, et al, were FABULOUS from the start. From Michael helping us plan our trip via email, to the warm welcome we received, the beautiful grounds, our beautiful, Championship Room, fabulous food, and many hours of laughter in the bar with Charlie, Theresa and Janet -- it was a magical and memorable part of our Ireland vacation.

We stayed here two nights and we're so glad we did -- it felt like we were going "home". Michael and Geraldine and their entire staff truly understand what hospitality and service is all about. Make sure you eat at least one night in Rozzers. It was one of the best meals we had while visiting Ireland.

If you want to go to the pubs in Killarney, don't drive [if you're going to drink]. Instead, have them call "Ger" -- charming man, and he will personally pick you up at Killeen House, drop you off in downtown Killarney [9 euros each way and worth it] and bring you back home at the end of your night [Ireland is strict about drinking and driving -- even one pint!]

We will definitely come back to the Killeen House Hotel in Aghadoe the next time we visit Ireland and will recommend the hotel to our friends.

Excellent Facility, Food and Hospitality

Tremendous hospitality at a lovely facility makes this small hotel an excellent choice. The near-unanimous great TA reviews of this facility attracted our extended family of seven here for a 2-night stay in June 2007 (though I expected to be somewhat disappointed after such a build-up.) However, EVERYTHING at Killeen House turned out to be exceptionally well done. This place is certainly not overrated. The staff did a phenomenal job in doing the extra things to make our stay there memorable.

My wife and I arrived on an early-morning flight from Dublin well before check-in, just hoping that our room would be ready. Indeed, our room was available, but the staff saw that we were tired and hungry, and also offered us complimentary breakfast on this day of our arrival. Two days later, we needed to catch a 6am flight--and they had a nice breakfast ready just for us before the sun came up! Needless to say, this place knows the meaning of "service", and goes out of its way to make it happen.

The Championship rooms were both of good size even by American standards, very nicely decorated, with upscale bathroom features. Beds and linens were very good. The only suggested improvement would be larger TV's, as 13" is too small. The public area of the hotel was warm, comfortable and inviting; the grounds were beautifully kept in the picturesque, Irish countryside setting.

The restaurant's rooms were nicely decorated with picture windows overlooking the grounds. Our one dinner there was very well-prepared, with a varied menu and the typical excellent service that we came to expect. Breakfasts were also superb.

Despite rather poor weather in the Killarney area during our stay. Killeen House was certainly a bright spot in every respect.

We enjoyed a two night stay in one of the Championship rooms in the hotel which had a king sized bed plus a single. It was immaculately clean and well furnished, although the decor was rather busy for my taste. The room had everything we needed except tea and coffee making facilities. The massive bed was really comfy and the room was nice and quiet. The bathroom was large and I loved the jacuzzi bath. For some reason the shower head was about 7 foot high which wasn't that convenient for keeping my hair dry while showering!

The location is quiet and handy for Killarney - a 10 minute drive away. Also if you drive up the lane there are spectacular views of the lakes (the view from our room was just of the pretty garden)

But as all the reviews have stated what really makes this hotel special is the friendly people and the fabulous food. The breakfast was good, but I would have preferred more of a buffet style rather than everything being ordered from a menu. Dinner was a set price 55 euros for 4 courses, both the food and service were fantastic. The bar is cosy and welcoming, we enjoyed a drink while choosing our dinner, but were unfortunately too tired to have a drink later.

The owners were really helpful prior to our stay and also when we arrived by arranging some surprises for my 40th on behalf of my husband. They arranged for champagne and roses to be delivered to our room and made a gorgeous cake for me. Sadly we were too full to eat it after our lovely dinner!

Thanks Michael, Geraldine and Charlie!

I stayed here last week for one night and it really was tremendous. I can see now why they have won all sorts of awards recently. Michael and Geraldine were very welcoming and the room was very comfortable and very well finished. The highlight of the trip would have to be the meal in the restaurant (Rozzers) which was absolutely brilliant from beginning to end. We finished the evening with a nightcap sitting outside in the garden (there were even candles laid on to make it more romantic!).

In short, I would highly recomend the Killeen House Hotel. Even though it was short, our stay there will live in the memory for a long time.
