“Killarney charmer”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2014

Beautiful old hotel in a great location, staff is very helpful with reservations and knowledge. The problem is the rooms with no a/c, we did change rooms for that reason. Bathrooms are very small and tubs are slippery and deep, showers not so great I.e water pressure, getting hot water correct. But the pluses out weigh any negatives, I would book again.

Room Tip: If you have a room with no a/c , it gets noisy from street partying.

Dear Karen H,
Thank you for your very kind review, we're sorry we did not score the perfect 5 in some areas but we are very glad you enjoyed your stay overall.
We would like to address a few of your points if possible:
Regarding air conditioning, it is not a requirement of a 4 star hotel in Ireland but 50% of our rooms do have AC, and we have plenty of cooling fans available for rooms without it.
Our bathrooms are regulation size and all our bath-tubs are standard fittings.
Regarding our water pressure, we have just completed a new plant room and are in the process of changing over systems, this will take approx. 2-3 more weeks and may account for the lower than normal water pressure and for which you are perfectly right and for which we do apologise.
However overall, we're delighted that you enjoyed your time with us and hope that you returned home with many happy memories.
Best regards
Anne Marie Collins

Excellent hotel that we return to again & again. It's run exceptionally well by the management team and staff, many of whom have been working here for as long as I can remember. Every guest is treated with the utmost courtesy. The restaurant has a fine selection on the menu and has a warm, cosy atmosphere, which is added to by the banter with the staff. Each dish is immaculately presented. The bar has a great atmosphere, with live music nightly during the summer months & weekends off-season. The hotel also has a residents lounge, which has a quiet, comfortable seating area with an open fire & TV. There's also a snooker/pool table, with some golf memorabilia on the walls. This is a great place to relax in the evening. All in all, I would highly recommend this hotel, it ticks all the boxes and is perfectly placed, right in the heart of Killarney.

Dear Dale,
Thank you for your absolutely glowing review, which we are delighted with and could not have written better ourselves!
We very much appreciate our return guests and indeed hope that every new visitor to us will become one.
We are so often complimented on our professional yet very natural, friendly team and we feel that this is an area of the hotel that brings people back to us time and time again.
We hope we'll see you back soon and thank you once again for your great comments,
Best regards

The room had no air conditioning, just after complaining they provided a small fan that had to be placed in front of the TV, so as you can imagine, you had a partial view of the TV if you wanted to watch the news.

In order to get into the bathroom you had to go up three stairs, yes, inside the room.

The room had a few windows but it was impossible to open them so I had to ask for assistance to have them open.

Shower on my scale of 1 to 5 (1=Poor, 5 = Excellent) is a 0 (zero). As a matter of fact I cannot remember any other hotel with such a terrible water pressure. It took me ages to take a bath. The bed was a 3.

I complained about the water pressure to the front desk (I stayed 2 nights there) but nothing could be done. Since I traveled with other colleagues I know that some rooms have been renovated and have very nice room area, nice showers and excellent room proportions, so you have to be lucky to get a room in this property.

Breakfast was part buffet and for the main dish you had to ask the waiter for “the egg” (yes, one egg, they do not provide you with “eggs”).

Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room, insist on better shower wáter pressure

Dear MPM,
Thank you for taking the time to give us your thoughts on Tripadvisor, we appreciate all feedback as it is our best method of knowing how we are doing.
We have three room types, Classic, Superior & Executive. All of our Executive and the majority of our Superior rooms have air conditioning which is approx. 50% of the hotel.
Due to the historic nature of the hotel, it is not possible to fit AC to the remaining rooms and thankfully air conditioning is not normally an issue in Ireland, however it has been exceptionally warm over the last few weeks.
All rooms are newly renovated including your room, 216 which was redecorated in 2013.
However, you are correct, the different room categories are decorated to different standards and it is possible that some of your group got complimentary upgrades which can happen on occasion and is just ‘ the luck of the draw’
However your room has a Natural sleep bed with pillowtop mattress, Egyptian cotton sheets and duvet, windows are all newly installed and all aerated with openings to meet Health & Safety requirements
Breakfast is an extensive cold buffet with all hot items cooked freshly to order and served to your table and there is no limit to the number of eggs served or preferred cooking method available.
Regarding our water pressure, we have just completed a new plant room and are in the process of changing over systems, this will take approx. 2-3 more weeks and may account for the lower than normal water pressure and for which we apologise.
However we do hope that overall you enjoyed your time in Killarney and Ireland and that you had a safe journey home.
Kind regards
Anne Marie Collins

Loved our stay and our Hotel Room was beautiful with a lovely jacuzzi bath tub. Ideal location with all the best local pubs, clubs and restraunts all on the doorstep. Staff were very helpful and really nice (especially the old guy at reception). The jaunting carts pick you up right outside the hotel door- what more could you ask for!? Great stay A+! :-)

My room was booked for me for work I was doing in Killarney. It was small but adequate. It was very clean and modern decor but unfortunately right over the bar where there is music every night until 12, so I didn't get much sleep as its also to the front of the hotel which is on a very busy noisy street. The breakfast was nice and dinner lovely but even though its location is central try & get a room at the back of the hotel where it maybe quieter.

Dear Lyra74,
Thank you for taking the time to post your experience on Tripadvisor.
We really appreciate your positive comments on our breakfast and dinner offering as it’s one area we pay particular attention to.
Yes, we provide music in our bar during the Summer months starting at 9pm and finishing at 11pm midweek and 11.30pm weekend, as we are very aware of the noise factor within the hotel and we try to minimise this at all times.
There are only two rooms over the Bar, and when are where possible, we always make guests aware of the music before arrival and I regret on this occasion our system let us down.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused and for not meeting your expectations on this occasion but we hope to have the opportunity of welcoming you back at another time when we will certainly ensure you are allocated a quieter room.
Kind regards
Anne Marie Collins

Very nice clean hotel, but we did not have hot water. When we informed the front desk on checkout the clerk basically asked why didn't we call? Well, because we didn't have time and who wants to be ready for a shower and then have a maintanence person come in?
Did take a few euro off but really did not leave with a good opinion of it.

Dear Akjane,
Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel and we’re delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay with us overall.
Regarding our hot water, we are a little disappointed at your comments as in fact there was plenty of hot water if we had been given the opportunity to explain to you how to operate the shower.
We apologise for any misunderstanding caused and for not being able to solve this issue while you were with us, and hopefully we may have the opportunity to welcome you back again in the future.
Kind regards
Anne Marie Collins
