“WONDERFUL”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2010

We have just returned to South Africa from a 4 week holiday in Ireland - during May 2010 - which was a fantastic experience . During this time we hired a car for 10 days and toured the country staying in a different town and B&B each night.
.
The only place in which we spent 2 nights - 20 and 21 May 2010- was Killarney and luckily we chose to stay in "Chelmsford House ".
.
The owners make you feel at home from the minute you arrive and their home is immaculate and the views are stunning.
One can immediately see the attention to detail everywhere and perfection seems to be the key word , from the dining room / lounge to the bedroom.
The bedroom is lovely and after a long days travelling the new mattress on the king size bed and excellent quality bed linen is most welcome !
.
It was most welcome to be able to use the PC in the lounge to retrieve emails etc , in a lovely, peaceful room and this was also free of charge .
.
Breakfast was another great experience and there were no less than 10 selections on the breakfast menu ( in addition to cereals, toast etc ) and the owner is an excellent cook and each meal is meal is prepared and served with the attention to detail that is apparent everywhere in this house.
.
The location is good , ie the views spectacular and the area good and by car its easy to get onto the correct road when leaving.
The walk into town is some 15 min and is fine as its downhill though coming back to the B&B could present a problem for some as there is a steep incline and I would recommend that one does this trip by car.

Whilst by far the best B&B that we stayed in during our trip around Ireland they would be considered the "perfect " venue if it were not for the fact that the towels provided in the bathroom did seem "over used" and not of the same quality as experienced elsewhere and believe that the owners could replace these as soon as possible. Also in an effort to save the environment the B&B requests that you do not change the towels each day and try to use them for 2 days running ( ie so as not to add more washing powder and chemicals to the environment etc ) and whilst this is a noble idea and we complied with it , the fact remains that wet , used towels are not ideal to use on the 2nd day .
.
It is hoped the above comment can be seen for the constructive criticism that is and we hope that ther owners continue running their B&B as will certainly stay there again when in the area and recommend it to everybody reading this review.

Chelmsford House is a very nice house located in the hills near Killarney. Within walking distance to town. Just a little hike though. Rooms are small but very clean. Breakfast choices are great. Louise was very nice, helping us to book our day trip to the Dingle Peninsula. Pat was working in the beautiful front garden when we returned and he was nice too. Good view of the mountains from front of house.

After three nights of travelling through County Cork and Kerry our last stop was Chelmsford House in Killarney. The B&B is in an ok location so long as you have a car. It is a few minutes drive to the town centre and a five minute drive to the national park / Mussrock. The B&B was clean with friendly enough owners. Our room was an adequate size however the ensuite was a very tight squeeze. The biggest disappointment was paper thin walls which meant there was no peace and quiet. You could hear everything throughout the house. Unfortunately for us our room was obviously up against another room's ensuite. Hearing the fan on, sink running, toilet paper being pulled and toilet being flished was painful enough. However our night turned horrendous owing to the guests in the other room having diarrhea!! It was just awful. My friend and I hardly got any sleep after being subjected to a night of this. Indeed it is unfortunate that this poor guest was ill but the paper thin walls were to blame. We left in the morning declining breakfast having lost our appetites and being very frustrated by the rude response of the owners after we explained the events of the night. By far the worst B&B my friend and I have ever stayed in!

My friend and I had a lovely stay in Killarney (four nights). The house ist quite close to the center and has a wonderful view to the mountains over the lakes. Doing the Gap of Dunloe Tour (with bus and boat) was a great advice from Louise. Walking through the Killarney National Park is our advice for everyone else. So, enjoy your next stay at Chelmsford House.

We was there from march, 11th - 13th 2010 and it was so great. We arrived the Chelmsford House later then planned and ring the bell. Louise, our hostess opened the door. She is a very nice and fascinating person. After the arrive she was only interessted about our flight and the travel to the accomodation and gave us interresting informations about the region inklusive a guide for killarney and the county kerry. The room was very comfortable and very clean. One day later, after the wake up we was very suprised about the great view about the killarney national park and the lough leane. The breakfast from louise is english (the eggs are available fried or scrambled, inlklusive bacon or sausages). Our next trip to ireland will be started at the Chelmsford House, for sure. And for all guests, who will walk to the city: in front of the chelmsford house is a staircase (Caution: in tihs time is this staircase a building site and very dark;but shorter as the way about the street (minimum 5 minutes more)). Louise, we hope, will us seen in the next time.

Greetings from Germany

My husband and I spent 2 weeks at Chelmsford House June 2009 and we found Louise and Pat very helpful and friendly hosts nothing we asked them was to much trouble. The house was immaculately clean the breakfast's were delicious (especially the pancakes) served in a nice friendly manner. The room we had was large with lovely views from the patio window, the bed was very comfortable and it was so nice to come back after a day's sight seeing to find the bed made and everything spotless. There is also a guest sitting room with lots of information on the area available. It is located in a very nice quiet area within easy walking distance of Killarney Town if you did not want to use the car. We really could not find any thing we did not like about this guest house and would recommend it without hesitation to any of our friends
