I took my boyfriend to Cellar One for his birthday. I was incredibly impressed with the use of space in this basement restaurant. The place was full of happy diners, and the relaxed lighting and pianist in the corner added to the ambiance without being overbearing.
I ordered Clonakilty black pudding with a blue cheese sorbet for starter, while my boyfriend ordered scallops. Both dishes were exceptional. Mains were also practically faultless. I ordered parmesan crusted plaice with crab claws and wilted spinach, which was good, but there definitely wasn't enough spinach. My boyfriend had the vension, which gave me serious food envy. It was a huge hunk of meat, cooked exactly as he asked. Potoes and vegetables also arrived with the mains.
Dessert was outstanding. On recommendation from the hotel's charming receptionist we ordered the chocloate fondue to share. Amazing!
The staff were attentive, cordial and chatty, as well as highly professional. Despite the place being full, we never felt rushed, and they knew to bring our after dinner drinks after dessert, which a lot of places don't think of!
I cannot recommend it highly enough, certainly one of the best restaurants in Killarney.
