“Fantastic hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

This Hotel is a real gem. Had every thing I love about a hotel. Food in the bar was great and the service was fantastic. Lots of car parking spaces and a good bus service from the road. Also the hotel will give you a €10 voucher towards a Galway taxi. The bus fare is only €1.80. The room was very clean and warm. The bed quality is 100%. I just love the Clayton hotel

Room Tip: Bed is very comfortable

Myself and a few friends book the 2 night New Years package in this hotel. It's a lovely modern hotel with a nice swimming pool and decent rooms. Staff were friendly and helpful especially the restaurant staff. Breakfast was very good with plenty to choose from. The included dinner was excellent and the service was fantastic. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and I would recommend this hotel.

A large group of us stayed here in early January. The hotel is lovely, modern, spotlessly clean. We only stayed one night so can't comment on the leisure facilities. Food in the bar was very good, as was breakfast. Every single member of staff we met was fantastic, so friendly and helpful.
Location is a bit out from city centre but only a short taxi away.

I've stayed in Galway many times on business. I stayed at the Clayton for two weeks in October. It is a pleasant, modern, clean, friendly hotel. The largest drawback is the location -- several miles outside of the city center. The center of Galway is a very pleasant, compact, walkable area, and there are several very nice hotels right down in the city. From those, you can easily walk to any one of many (easily more than 50) nice restaurants and pubs, or to many nice shops and the Cathedral. At the Clayton, your choices are the hotel restaurant and bar (which are good) or the Kentucky Fried Chicken across the street. It is fairly close to Galway's major track for horse racing. But otherwise, you must grab a taxi to go into town. Taxis are easy to get, and the fare into town is about 12 to 18 euro (each way), depending on the traffic.

To be fair, the room rate reflects the location disadvantage. This is very close to as nice as the Radisson Blu (in the city center), but runs about 30 euro cheaper, per night (based on our corporate rates). The breakfast at the Clayton is very good -- almost as nice as the Radisson's. The rooms are nicely appointed, although the work areas are a bit small. The biggest disappointment is the small fitness center. The Radisson's spa/fitness center is much nicer, and if you are a runner or walker, the city center is a treat. The Clayton, on the other hand, is in an unremarkable mixed residential / industrial-park setting.

This is a nice, modern, clean hotel, with friendly service. If you could transplant it into the center of Galway, it would be great. :-)

Room Tip: There are no 'views' from this hotel, but you might want to avoid rooms on the north side, w...

Stayed for a wedding last weekend. Food, service, room was excellent. Little things like high speed internet being FOC, excellent breakfast and room service. Attentive bar staff, very polite and obliging. Even the cleaning staff were very mild mannered and went out of their way to help. Most of all, however, was this. We had travelled by car over night from Oxford in UK. Along drive, ferry and drive to Galway, which culminated in our arriving at the hotel early in the morning. When asked if there was any chance we could be allowed to enter our rooms early, so we could get a few hours rest, the girl at reception went out of her way to help us and accommodate us. This made such a HUGE difference to our stay and made the wedding all the more enjoyable. Excellent, excellent, excellent. We will be back. We normally stay in town, but I think we will change our residency from now on, when in Galway. Great location too, across the road from the race course, 2 mins from the M6....

Room Tip: All rooms seem good, as we were all in differing areas, but everyone's review was the same. Bril...

Stayed here during busy period wkend 13/14 DEC with a lot of Christmas parties etc... could not give the staff any higher praise very professional and dealt with everybody. Got free upgrade to executive suite which was amazing very helpful staff advised us lots about best places for food etc and told us bus stop to town just round corner. Food was unreal and the breakfast best I ever had in a hotel.
We will be back, was a pleasure.

My husband and I stayed here for 1 night. The staff were lovely (everyone in Galway is always very friendly in my experience) the room clean and modern, as was the ensuite. The shower was great, which is always a plus as they can be very hit and miss in hotels. The breakfast buffet had plenty to choose from and was kept replenished. The location, while not in the city centre, suited our needs perfectly as we had our own transport. All in all a nice overnighter.
