There is a gym a pool it's close to town and the staff were dry polite , I want to go back now i liked it that much .

The web site indicated it was located a short distance, about 2 kilometres from Galway central it was in fact about 6 kilometres. Our first problem was finding the place. The GPS took us kilometres away from the actual location and we were 'lost' for about an hour driving around Galway City with no sign posts or correct GPS! Room was spacious and beautiful with balcony. We stayed for 3 nights, clean and comfortable with friendly staff and nice breakfast. Only problem was the heat wouldnt turn off in the room and we found ourselves overheating in the middle of the night and having to open all windows which overlooks the motorway so quite noisy.

I think your opinion of this hotel would depend on how much you paid, the rack rate for a double room is 300+euros but some friends were offered a Sunday night for 80 which would be very good value indeed. Hotel is modern, large, and stylish, and so was our room. Very comfortable bed. Can recommend the fish chowder on the bar menu, and there was an extensive buffet-style breakfast offer. Location would be a drawback for tourists; it is on a junction of the main road in from Dublin and a long way from the historic city centre. Traffic noise is a problem when sleeping, even with windows shut and air conditioning on. I was also concerned that some of the corridor and lift lobby fire doors in our block appeared to be damaged and not closing properly. I would happily stay again if travelling on business by car, and they offered a good rate.

Room Tip: There's a main block and a connected bedroom-only block, for a quieter night avoid rooms in this...

Stayed for 3 nights with family.Lovely big room with 2 huge beds for ourselves and two children u12,room 220 spotlessly clean.Lunchtime fare on the Sunday was poor, and not great service so we didn't avail of the inclusive dinner offer with our supervalu package,.There were plenty of people eating however in bar area.Breakfast was ok nothing special. It was a good base and we probably would stay closer to the city next time.

Efficient check-in. Room fine with added bonus of air-conditioning.

There was a recurring problem with hairs during our 2 night stay - nice long black ones on the white tiles of our bathroom walls, one in our teacup at breakfast and one on the dinner plate of the lady sitting next to us at dinner - lovely!

Hotel was quite busy so breakfast wasn't as relaxing as it might have been - self service area needs to be reconfigured so that people flow better. Continental breakfast offerings were poor with rubbery cheese slices and fake grapes for decoration - it's a long time since I've seen those anywhere! Pastry selection was good.

We ate in the restaurant on one evening from a set dinner menu, weren't offered an a la carte so don't know if it was available.
Hubby had seafood chowder to start which he enjoyed. I went for the tiger prawn cocktail which I can only describe as the worst starter I've ever had. A side plate mounded with mixed lettuce, some of the leaves brown around the edges, a little drizzle of mustard dressing on top, chunks of cucumber and 5 washed out, tasteless little prawns around the edge. The prawns literally looked as if they'd just been left to defrost and dropped on to the plate. I picked at it but left most on the plate. The very young waiter didn't enquire was everything ok with it so I offered my opinion but there was no follow up from anyone.
Mains were ok, desserts, the best of a disappointing meal.

Bus outside hotel gives handy access to the city centre for 1.70 each way, takes about 15 minutes.

Good hotel for the business traveller as its position is convenient to the motorway and other road networks.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. Despite the web site indicating it was located a short distance about 2 kilometres from Galway central it was infact about 6 kilometres. Our first problem was finding the place. The GPS took us kilometres away from the actual location. We had to ring the hotel, when we advised there was a problem with the address. [We were unable to get to the bottom of this problem and pretty much brushed off.] We were later given the GPS co-ordinates over the telephone because the co-ordinates on the Web were also incorrect. This was brought to the attention of reception. The other problem was malfunctioning toilet flushing.

We formed the view that sections of the hotel might much newer and that tripadvisor customers with a good price arrangements might be accommodated in what appeared to be a much older section of the hotel. This is something we were unable to audit.

Room Tip: Can't offer anything constructive here as we only stayed in the same room.

Clayton-GM, General Manager at Clayton Hotel, responded to this review, September 2, 2013
Dear Greg1940,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review of your recent stay in the Clayton Hotel. Your comments on the issues you had with the directions and GPS co-ordinates are useful and we will feed this back to the web site hosts to review. Just on your last comment, whilst the hotel is indeed split between two buildings linked by a ground floor corridor the hotel in it's entirety was opened in 2007 and offers the same level of comfort in each of the 195 guest bedrooms throughout.
Thank you once again for your comments and for deciding to stay with us.

Kind regards

Rory Fitzpatrick

Out stay at the Clayton Hotel was great! The staff was friendly and helpful and the hotel rooms were great! I only gave four stars because we had the corner room and none of the blinds (all automated) worked :O(

Beware however... Both, on their website and the ads they have on the room TV's, they advertise FREE breakfast... NOT the case. They charge 10 euros.

Room Tip: If possible, ask for a corner room... It's worth it!
