“Great location, wonderful host!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2012

We really enjoyed the time at Consilio, there were 5 of us and we stayed 2 nights, the fresh fruit was wonderful, it was clean and so close to town that we walked, and best of all, Stella was just great. we are saving her information next time we return. 4.5 rating.

Consilio is an excellent bed and breakfast, breakfast was quite tasty and the room was more than up to the standard. It's located at Whitestrand Avenue, which is some 10 minutes from the Quays and the Spanish Arch.
Parking facilities are adequate and, as I said, in a quite nice, safe and, above all, quiet area in the city.
I would reccommend it for a short stay and would strongly advice to use an updated satnav, as it can be hard to find (many streets in Lower Salthill have similar names and even look quite similar, which can be confusing when you don't know where you're going).
As for some neutral comments, ok, breakfast wasn't anything out of this world, but it was more than adequate and furniture was, at least in my room, good. It's not a designer's paradise, but it is sufficient.

Lovely hosts, terrible location and breakfast isn't that great. Outdated furniture. Overall not good value for money.

while it is a bit hard to find given so many street names are similar, this was a great place. Very friendly and centrally located.

This is a lovely and very comfortable B & B with nice clean rooms, good plumbing and an excellent breakfast. What makes Consilio special is the hostess Stella and her very nice husband, Liam. Consilio is a bit of a hike into town, and we used taxis at night.

At Whitestrand Avenue in Lower Salthill quite close to Ward's Hotel which has one of the most charming pubs in Galway, you will find this B&B. I passed it hundreds of times while I lived in Galway a few years ago, and the exterior does not tell what the interior contains. Stella Faherty and her husband Liam is a lovely couple creating a family like and very caring atmosphere to the B&B. The rooms are fairly large (for a B&B) with en-suite bathrooms, mine, a single on the 2nd floor, had a nice view towards the Burren over the roof tops. The environment is quiet. The breakfast in the morning is nice and Stella is the most caring hostess.

It is one minutes walk to Ward's, it is a few minutes walk till you reach the Promenade along Galway Bay, which is a good way of looking at the wonderful view and get some excersice. Getting into Quay Street from Consilio takes 10 - 15 minutes depending on pace. You could combine the walk to the very end of the Promenade, at the golf course, return back and then walk through Claddagh, known for the rings. Walking up north you will reach UCHG, the hospital, and passing that there is the University on the other side of the street. From there it is just a 5 minute walk to the Cathedral. I do recommend to walk along the canals watching a lot of different birds and flowers and the green bushes and trees in the summer.

The breakfast is very good and the hospitality and generosity you experience along with Stella’s personality will engage you in a nice early morning craic. A good piece of advice would be that you leave either your address or your mobile number to Stella as that could be useful in the future. This advice is given from a personal experience.

We stayed one night and loved Stella from the start. She is the perfect Irish hostess, couldn't be more helpful or entertaining. Consilio is close enough to downtown Galway to walk easily. Our rooms were very clean and modern and spacious. We traveled with friends and like to play cards. Stella even cleaned off a table in her breakfast room to accommodate our game. Liam cooked great eggs in the morning to go with Stella's fabulous breakfast. Everything was available, even fresh fruit. We recommend staying here when coming to Galway.
