5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2009

this place is about 5 to 6 mins walk from quay street [main area for pubs, music and nightlife]and shopping areas, and the west end area where you have monroes ,blue note massimo pubs etc,6 of us stayed here, rooms ensuite with free shampoo and shower cap, hair dryer, flatscreen tv,dvd player, free internet etc, very comfy bed, certainly very good facilities for a guest house,no curfew,a lie in every morning, and very helpful and friendly advice from owner, in fact i have booked this place again for a weekend in summertime, make sure you book well in advance, the weekend i have booked is now full and its only march, also go for a pint in pub down road [cookes]

I stayed here on a girls weekend very central but far enough away from the noise and people getting sick on your door step

lovely well kept house, nice room ,wooden floor, white cotton bed sheets, tea and coffee with buscuits
Hot power shower with plenty of towels

there was no curfew and the owner wasnt even there the next morning to get his money we had to wait for him

plenty of room to park the car and nice area to stay

A great value in expensive Galway, this B&B is a 15-20 minute walk from the main shopping area and is run by young Jim Tierney. It has been a Galway B&B for many years. Our room (my husband and I ) had a king bed, had a good shower, a small refrigerator, and a small safe. Not a lot of extra space, but very clean, with breakfast snacks in room. Jim offered to pick us up from the bus station, and was a wealth of information of where to go, what to see and do, and where to eat and where to hear good traditional Irish music. We followed many of his recommendations, to our benefit. The room was quiet, although facing the street.

Jim is waiting permission to add six more rooms to his B&B, which he plans to keep with the same historical decor--beautiful wood door frames, banister, etc. He takes great pride in his B&B and in providing exceptional service to his guests.

What a rip off.I was charged €80 for a room for one person for one night. I've been checking around and this is reckoned to be about €20 - €30 over the odds for a single room in a Galway guesthouse, even in Summer. For that price, you'd expect a certain level of comfort and some extras. You don't get even the minimum which is normal for an Irish guesthouse. 'Continental breakfast' is advertised on the website, but this turns out to be a DIY picnic in your room, with packets of cornflakes, slices of bread, instant coffee and tea-bags. There was no shade on the overhead light, the duvet and pillows were thin, the shower and toilet had no ventilation and smelled stale. The room was too small for a chai AND it's noisy - not much soundproofing there. I do not recommend this place.

We stayed at Jim's for a few days in June and really enjoyed it.
He was a great host and very helpful with the directions of the
local Bars & Restaurants. On the way home, at Dublin Airport, I
discovered that I had left my credit cards at Dun Aoibhinn and
rang Jim about it. He posted them out to me and I got them
three days later. A truely honest and helpful guy, and a great
Ambassador for Galway Tourism. Some of the reviews on this
page slate Dun Aoibhinn, but overall for hospitality, prices, and
allocation, and a great host, nobody in their right mind could
knock it.!!

I booked this place online, and was very impressed with quick response to email, unlike other places i emailed, stayed in family room,as there were four of us,offered great value for money, phoned the owner when we got to bus station, and he collected us and brought us to the house all included in the price,he pointed out the many places of interest along the way,and showed us a quick route back into town, turns out jim the owner is a dj as well,he advised us on the great music pubs like roisin dubh, massimos, blue note etc, which are just around corner from his house, his late dad was a butcher so jim knows his meat/food etc and advised us on some really good places to eat at reasonable prices,he was so helpful,he even gave us his laptop for a couple of hours,so we could catch up with emails etc,any info we asked for,he could answer,a very nice place to stay, and by far the most knowledgeable host we came across on our trip, thanks very much Jim
