Stayed at the Meyrick for one night during a quick visit to Galway. I had never been to Galway before and the hotel was ideally situated smack bang in the centre, really convenient.
I had booked the room before I saw the reviews here on trip advisor and was a bit anxious because there were quite a few bad ones but i was really pleasantly surprised.
I booked a single room and asked for it to be a quiet room, I got a very large room and my request for a quiet room was carried out so that was great. It did seem however that the room i stayed in designed for disabled guests and i saw on the floor plan that not all of the rooms were quite as large.
The only drawback that I can think of is that it was quite hot and i wasnt able to open the window but apart from that it was a great hotel. I ordered breakfast in bed the following morning which was great and really tasty. I would definately stay there again.

I stayed at the Meyrick recently and I must say it was one of the worst hotel experiences I have had anywhere in the world.

Definitely not value for money for a hotel claiming to be 4 star and part of the Monogram group. For a start the room was very small and there seemed to be no soundproofing as the noise from Eyre Square at night was atrocious, there seemed to be a draft coming in from the old windows also. The bathroom had paint coming off the ceiling and the sink wouldn’t drain properly.

I also think the new bar is not a patch on the old one but in general the new surroundings are quite comfortable.

The dinner however was one of my worst experiences ever in a dining room. For a start we were put in a dreadfull seat close to where they were cleaning off plates, we eventually got moved to a nice table however the service was dire. The dining room itself is however nicely decorated. We ordered the set menu and wine, we got the starters within minutes but did not receive the wine until at least 30 minutes after the starter and after prompting the staff several times. The starter and main course were what you would expect in a country hotel from the 1980’s, the beef was precooked, prawn cocktail with a frozen prawns, a carvery in one of the local pubs would have been much better. In the end we even got charged for a €50 bottle of wine that we hadn’t ordered! The restaurant manager was running around opening bottles of wine without regard for the dire service on show, surely any management in the hotel if they sat down for one evening in the restaurant and observed the service and tasted the food would not permit this attempt at dining to be allowed.

The breakfast next day was a bit better but still not what you would expect from a 4 star hotel.
Overall I must say its in a great location, the lounge is comfortable and it still retains an old world feel but it needs to change now!

I'm a Galway native but never stayed in the Meyrick before. A couple of weeks ago, my boyfriend decided to surprise me by bringing me for an overnight stay there and to propose! The hotel was renovated in the past year and this is immediately apparent when you enter - the foyer, bar and restaurant are beautifully decorated. However, you shouldn't read a book by it's cover.
The bedroom was basic and not at all 4 star. The bathroom was appalling - paint pealing off the walls and ceiling and a sink which flooded the floor every time you used it. The window wasn't soundproof or at all secure and you could feel a cold draft when you stood near it. Both the cold and the drunken people screaming in Eyre Square kept us awake most of the night.
But the worst thing about the place was the service. We asked could we have a drink in the bar before the meal but were told we had only 15 mins as the kitchen wouldn't take any orders after that. Because of this we decided to just get a table straight away. We were placed beside the kitchen even though there were a number of other tables available. We asked to be moved but were told that they were booked out. However, when we asked why the other tables were empty, we were told that they weren't set so that's why we couldn't be moved. I ask you! We were moved eventually. Also, an hr after we arrived we saw people being seated for dinner even though we were told we couldn't be served that late. We had to ask 3 times for a bottle of wine we'd ordered which eventually came about 45 mins after we'd ordered it. The meal was appalling - salad brown and wilting with prawn cocktail, burnt potatoes etc etc.....
Needless to say, we won't be having our wedding reception there. Totally disgusted....

I was really put off going here after reading the reviews on TA but was really plesently surprised.

first off to the guy who gave out about the parking... there is valet parking. And the drop off section is sealed off outside so its quite obvious.
Secondly when you walk in the door there is a big sign pointing to the reception which i found no problem! The girl on the desk was delightful. Our room wasnt ready but we sat in the lobby and had coffee and sandwiches (which are overpriced and tiny)

The decor is a bit dark in the lobby but I personally liked it.
The room was a grand size. Lovely high ceilings and a really nice bathroom stocked with loads of goodies.

Didnt use any of the gym stuff so cant comment.

Had a few drinks in the bar,Nice jazz band playing.
Tried one of the cosmos. very nice! (but again overpriced)

Slept well. Breakfast was excellent. Wide range of foods avaliable, and if they didnt have what you wanted all you had to do was ask. Check out was quick and my car was brought back straight away and well worth the five euro min charge.

all in all a great expereience.
