this place was just what was needed after 24hours of constant travel and was the perfect springboard for visiting connemara and the aran islands, pity about the rain. Michael and Marie were extremely helpful with directions and insider information on the best places to eat . My only wish is I could take that double bed back home with me I have not sleapt as well since, maybe it was the sea air? :)

We stayed two nights in two rooms (we were four women) and had a really warm welcome. Our hosts were happy to give as much information as we asked for and breakfast was delicious. Beds were very comfortable. I would recommend this to others and will stay there again.

Ok-
Stayed here for a wedding at a nearby hotel.

I really hate doing this because the hosts are absolutely lovely and we really enjoyed everything else about this B and B. BUT- I woke up with 22 bed bug bites. This is my second attack in the last 6 months and I believe that the hospitality industry worldwide needs to understand that it is THEIR responsibility to keep their premises bed bug free.

It is simply not acceptable to have bed bugs, as they are easily detected by a bed and mattress inspection. As a two time victim- I am making a concerted effort to name and shame hotels and other lodging that have bed bugs. It is a sore dose- three weeks or so of pain and not worth it.

If they address this problem- I would be more than happy to give the review that the Abbeylee deserves as it is a lovely B and B...until then though....

Management response from danno678, Owner

I wish to offer my apologies to our guest of Sept 24th in his unfortunate experience with bed bugs. The room has been thoroughly sanatised and all other rooms checked and found to be bug free.
We are 6 years in business at Abbey Lee and this was the first encounter we had with bed bugs and I hope the last. Thorough vigilance and inspection will be our policy from now on.

Small rooms, located too far from city centre

Lovely hosts, great breakfast. Room was small - 2 beds with a small table in between. Room was also dated - nothing like the trendy furnishings shown on the website. Had fabulous pizza in Salthill as recommended by hosts.

While the accomodations here are clean and comfortable, the B&B is a bit further out than we realized at first glance. It is not within clear walking distance of anything but Salthill, which is somewhat touristy. If you don't mind taking a cab in and out of the city, it's a fine location.

It is an excellent location for taking a day trip out of the city up to Connemara which was why we booked it.

The owner is friendly and helpful. The breakfast was tasty, but nothing exceptional. The coffee, however, was quite delicious. We enjoyed our stay there. The only thing to be wary of is that it is quite a distance from Galway City itself. If we had been there for more than two nights or wanted to see more of the city itself, it would have been a bit far. If you're going for an ocean holiday, it's proximity to Salthill is definitely a plus!

As an aside, I was unaware of the ater problems in Galway city that have been going on for quite some time. The water from the taps is not potable. If this worries you, stay elsewhere to visit the Galway area.
