My other half and I booked at the Abacus after reading the lovely reviews on Trip Advisor, and certainly weren't disappointed. We had a lovely two night stay over 14 - 16 November, and OH is already planning our return visit next year.
Abacus is situated about ten minutes drive from Galway centre, and is on a local bus route (which seems fairly regular, as we often behind a bus on our drives towards the centre). It was nice and easy to find, and we didn't really need the assistance of Gina our Sat Nav (although it did keep OH amused on the way over from Dublin).
As soon as you enter the Abacus, you can feel the warmth of the O’ Shaughnessy home. The house is very welcoming, and is not only clean and tidy, but homely as well. Louise met us when we arrived on Friday night, and was lovely and welcoming, quickly getting us signed in, and showing us to our room (#17, straight up the stairs).
The room was more than decent in size, and well presented; the furniture is fitted (in the style of a Holiday Inn), and the bed was brilliant. Being winter, I was a little worried about the temperature, but there was central heating, warm blankets on the bed, along with a spare, and decent pillows.
The bathroom was en-suite, and included a shower and a toilet - all modern and clean, and with make up pads and cotton wool buds. The shower had amazing water pressure - I wanted to sneak it into my luggage to replace my own poor shower at home - and there was no issues with hot water running out etc.
Breakfast included all the cereals you could think of, yoghurts, juices, tea and coffee, and a hot cooked breakfast; OH had the large full Irish. The only thing missing was baked beans according to him, but he did say it was cooked much better than I ever manage, so he was more than happy. I just opted for cereal and toast (not being a breakfast person), but with a wide range of cereal and spreads, I was well catered for.
We were also impressed that on the second day, despite not showing ourselves until 10.30am, they were still happy to provide us with breakfast, which while we declined, we still appreciated. Both Louise and Breege made us feel very welcome, and should we come back to Galway to enjoy the Galway Races, then we certainly hope there is room at the inn...
