Stayed for one night in October 2008. Liked the location, very close to the city centre. The carpark is a couple of minutes walk away which is fine when it is dry but might not be so nice if it was raining.
The room was beautifully decorated and very clean. The rain shower was very nice. I was impressed by the extras - a complimentary magazine & newspaper, slippers, robe, nice tea/coffee maker. Things usually found in a more expensive hotel.
I had no trouble with noise, if anything it was extremely quiet. I've had two bad hotel experiences recently where the noise at night was awful. This was fine.
Fresh cooked hot breakfast the next morning which was very nice. Paid €99 for a single room which I thought was fairly priced for Galway.

My boyfriend and I decided to stay at the House Hotel for one night. As it was my birthday I was really looking forward to it. We arrived on Sunday at 3pm and even though check in was 2pm our room was not ready yet. The receptionist did not keep us waiting long and arranged for another room within a few minutes, but we were still a little unimpressed by the fact it was not ready an hour after suggested check-in time.
On arriving in the room I was disappointed with the size I had booked a Classy room but it seemed a bit on the small size, I did ring down to reception to double check but she said it was the correct room type. The decor in the room is nice and the shower was just great.
We went down to the bar for a drink and my boyfriend asked for a copy of the dinner menu as we were interested in dining there. But the sheet which they printed the menu on had arrival details for that day on the back , room numbers, the guest names, what type of room they were staying in, how many nights they were staying for and how much the guest was paying. We thought this was very unprofessional.
The menu was not very impressive so we decided to head elsewhere for dinner.
Breakfast was just ok nothing special. As check out was 11 we requested a later check out wich was not a problem.
Overall we were not very impressed and probably won't stay there again and I wouldn't recommend to a friend.

I've never written a review on TripAdvisor before, usually because I've been pleased, or in a "you get what you pay for" frame of mind. But I must say I was disappointed with The House Hotel after reading reviews here and especially for what we paid.

For the same price, or actually, cheaper, seeing as we stayed in the "classy" rooms, you could stay in The Park House Hotel which is superior in every way to this place. Our stay was OK, but thats it, I expected more than OK. The room was comfy, spacious, nice bathroom, but I didn't like the style of it, fine, personal taste. My girlfriend found it very homely so I guess that's good. One thing that wasn't homely was the serious lack of privacy, you could hear everything from the other rooms, which was pretty funny last night with whoever was having a good time across the way!! Also, on the first night we were out, we returned to find our room had been lit up, jazz on the tv, a little custard tart by the bed, all very nice, but the heating turned up! We nearly passed out, the room took 20 minutes to cool down, nice on a freezing december evening, but a mild october one? Nice!

We also returned on the second day in the evening around 6pm, ready to relax, to find our room being cleaned. A minor annoyance as we had told the cleaners it was fine earlier, as we had to wait in the lobby for nearly half an hour. Breakfast was very average. On the first day we got room service. I got a fry, but no tea? It was all OK, nothing special. The second day we went down stairs, and sat and then served our own continental brekkie, while sitting we thought we would be offered a hot breakfast, but no. Maybe you had to ask for it?

We had dinner one night in the hotel. Again disappointing. Admittedly it was extremely busy with some big family dinner, but it's really no excuse. They seemed understaffed, the very nice waiters were sweating and falling over themselves literally in Fawlty Towers style. We waited 30 minutes for a very poor starter, and another 30 minutes for an average main course, and 20 for a nice dessert. The couple beside us seemed to be having awful trouble with wrong orders so it could have been worse.

Finally, upon leaving, very early, and half asleep, I almost overlooked the fact we were overcharged €70. They had included our meal even though I had prebooked the "1 dinner for 2 people for €80" option, it was bad enough having to pay for it once! I pointed this out, but it took a while to get this through to the receptionist, she was claiming, "yes but nothing is paid in advance", no but that doesn't clear up your bill being €70 overpriced, she finally admitted "oh yes I see your point".

All in all, lots of minor quibbles. Very underwhelmed, and I'm only comparing it to its price like competition, the Park House Hotel, which was so much better in every way. If you were to stay here, choose the cheapest room, don't get fooled by their packages which actually work out more expensive, and eat out, so many nice restaurants in Galway, Nimmos, Vina Mara, The Park House etc etc. Won't be coming back here.

  • Liked — The location.
  • Disliked — The extreme averageness of it all.

Stayed here with my wife for one night. Hotel has an excellent location and is only yards away from the "touristy" area of Galway. Parking is in a nearby muti storey in Merchants Rd and hotel patrons get a good discount.

The hotel reception is very homely. Check-in desks are less formal than in your average hotel and the receptionist was very friendly and professional. When we arrived at our room the receptionist called to see if we were happy with the room - a nice touch.

The room ("Comfy Room") was on the small side but not so much that it was an inconvenience. The decor was clean, fresh and well thought out as was the ensuite bathroom. It was one of the few hotel rooms that I have been in that felt like I was the first person to use that room - a compliment to the cleaning staff.

We had drinks and food in the bar. No issues with either. Staff were professional. Breakfast the next morning was average which probably stopped me giving the hotel 5/5.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anybody visiting Galway and wanting to explore the city by day or by night.

Lovely hotel, very stylish and great location near to the centre of everything in Galway.

Would have graded excellent, but service in restaurant was slow, didn't seem to have enough staff.
